Manchester United eye £17 million swoop for Arsenal target - Reports
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu (via London World) has claimed that Manchester United are eying a move for Fenerbahce's Ferdi Kadioglu, who is also an Arsenal target. The Gunners had reportedly submitted a bid of around £17 million for the versatile defender, as per Turkish outlet Nutuk, but Fenerbahce want £30m.
The Red Devils look keen to rebuild ahead of the new season, particularly their defense after a disappointing last campaign, where they finished eighth in the league. That finish was their lowest ever in the Premier League era.
24-year-old Kadioglu is adept on both flanks and could cover the left-back spot for United, which has been troublesome recently. He is currently managed by a former Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, and might prove an expensive acquisition.
Kadioglu has made 203 appearances for the Istanbul-based club, scoring 18 and assisting 22, and featured 20 times for the Turkiye national team.
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag backs Jadon Sancho despite penalty miss
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has backed Jadon Sancho despite his penalty shootout miss against Manchester City in the Community Shield, The English forward was left out of the first team last season after falling out with the Dutch manager.
Sancho was then sent on loan to his former side Borussia Dortmund for the latter half of the campaign. He helped them reach the UEFA Champions League final. While he was widely expected to leave the club this summer following his issues with the manager, the duo seemed to have made up.
After reintegration into the squad, he took the field for the 20-time English Champions at Wembley in the Community Shield against City on Saturday, August 10. Sancho came on late for Marcus Rashford and missed his spot-kick to draw City level in the shootout.
Speaking to the press about the forward's missed penalty, Ten Hag said (via FotMob):
"I had no doubts about him. He's a very good penalty taker and today he missed, but that's part of the game. I am sure in the future he will take penalties."
Jadon Sancho will be keen to impress for Manchester United in the upcoming season after his long absence from the team. The Englishman will be keen to feature and have a more positive impact in the Premier League opener against Fulham.
