"Manchester United have found the best coach in the world, by far" - Former Real Madrid man makes claim about Ruben Amorim
Former Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao has lavished praise on new Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim after the latter arrived at Old Trafford on November 11. The former Los Blancos defender knows the Portuguese tactician fairly well, having shared the pitch with him for the national team and Benfica.
Together, the pair played 57 matches across competitions for club and country, but did not manage a joint goal contribution in that time. Calling Amorim the best manager in the world, Coentrao said about his former teammate (via Alfredo Pedulla):
"Sporting have lost a very important player, but I am happy for Ruben. He deserves this and much more. Manchester United have found the best manager in the world… by far,” the former player said on the sidelines of an event."
Entering his new job with the Red Devils, Amorim does boast a fairly successful managerial career. With Sporting, he managed to win the Portuguese first-division league title on two occasions, among other honors. The 39-year-old also left his former side on top of the league standings this year after 11 matches in charge.
However, he will have a rather difficult task ahead to turn Manchester United's fortunes around in the coming weeks and months. Erik ten Hag had a horrid start to the campaign, which led to his sacking in late October.
Currently, the Red Devils are placed 13th on the Premier League table but are only four points behind the Champions League spots. After the international break, Amorim will participate in undertaking his first assignment as Manchester United's boss against Ipswich Town on November 24.
Ruben Amorim sheds light on Viktor Gyokeres' future amid interest from Manchester United and Arsenal
Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres has unsurprisingly drawn interest from top European sides, including Manchester United and Arsenal, after his recent displays. The striker's links to Old Trafford seem reasonable, with the player's former boss, Ruben Amorim, now in charge of the club.
However, it seems as though the Red Devils will not be making a move for the Sweden international in January. Speaking about the attacker's future, Amorim told TNT Sports (via Football London):
"Viktor has to stay until the end of the season, and then his life maybe is going somewhere else."
Gyokeres has been on fire this season, having scored 23 goals in 18 matches across competitions. He will have to compete with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee for minutes if he is to sign for the Red Devils.
