Manchester United handed double fitness boost as 2 stars return to training following injury absence

Manchester United have received a huge boost as Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund trained with the team at Carrington on Wednesday (September 18). Mount and Hojlund have been two major absentees from Erik ten Hag's squad over the last few weeks due to injuries.

Rasmus Hojlund sustained a hamstring injury in a pre-season game against Arsenal on July 28 at the SoFi Stadium. Despite opening the scoring for Erik ten Hag's side, the Danish forward had to be replaced in the 16th minute by Hannibal Mejbri.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount started the opening two Premier League games for Manchester United against Fulham (August 16) and Brighton & Hove Albion (August 24). However, he had to be substituted by Joshua Zirkzee at halftime against Brighton & Hove Albion due to injury. The Englishman has since missed three matches - against Liverpool, Southampton, and Barnsley.

The club shared the news of Mount and Hojlund's return to training via their official website on September 18:

"Both Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund trained with the group at Carrington, with our photographers capturing the pair working hard to prove they are ready to return to action."

Rasmus Hojlund joined the Red Devils from Atalanta BC in the summer of 2023. Last season, he scored 16 goals and created two more in 43 games for the club in all competitions.

Mason Mount joined Manchester United from Chelsea in July 2023. The 25-year-old has since made just 23 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring a goal and providing an assist in an injury-plagued stay.

The Red Devils started their Premier League 2024-25 season with a 1-0 win against Fulham at Old Trafford on August 16. However, they followed it with two consecutive defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion (August 24) and Liverpool (September 1).

The Red Devils broke their losing streak against Southampton on September 14, registering a thumping 3-0 win at St. Mary's Stadium. They are currently tenth in the Premier League table with two wins and two losses from four games.

Manchester United had a disastrous 2023-24 Premier League campaign in 2023-24, finishing eighth - their lowest finish in the PL era. Erik ten Hag would want to forget the perils of last season and give the fans reasons to be hopeful in the current Premier League season.

Manchester United's next outing will be against Crystal Palace on September 21. Erik ten Hag's side demolished Barnsley 7-0 in their EFL Cup opener on September 17 and will want to carry that form to Selhurst Park when they face Oliver Glasner's side.
