Manchester United handed fresh boost as defender returns to training after severe metatarsal injury
Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has returned to training at Carrington after stepping up his recovery from a metatarsal injury suffered during pre-season. The French teenager has yet to make a competitive appearance after joining the Red Devils in the early summer.
Yoro, 18, was back on the grass at Carrington for the first time on Monday (October 21). He was heralded as one of the most exciting defensive talents when arriving at Old Trafford from LOSC Lille in a reported £59 million deal.
The French centre-back has been sidelined since July 28 after being forced off in Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly. A return to action isn't imminent for the France U23 international.
Erik ten Hag said that Yoro is 'in the right spot' regarding his fitness programme. The Dutch tactician will be eager for the highly-regarded defender to return to full fitness before the turn of the year.
Yoro has also posted a video on social media teasing his return and potential competitive debut. It includes Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand's huge praise, saying he 'has all the tools' to make a big impact at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will be without Yoro for their next game against Fenerbahce in the UEFA Europa League (October 24). The Red Devils will be looking for their first win of this season's competitions after frustrating draws against FC Twente (1-1) and FC Porto (3-3).
Manchester United could be without six other players vs Fenerbahce
Manchester United make the trip to Turkiye to face Fenerbahce and their former manager, Jose Mourinho. The two European giants battle at the Sukru Saracoglu, and Ten Hag is dealing with an injury crisis.
Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount all missed United's win 2-1 win against Brentford. They were sidelined with various injury problems and could be doubts for the game on Thursday.
Casemiro was forced off in the win against the Bees with a calf problem. The Brazilian midfielder looked in pain as he trudged off the pitch late on.
There has been no update regarding the extent of Casemiro's injury. Ten Hag would be handed a massive headache if he lost the former Real Madrid star.
Manuel Ugarte has made a slow start at United, and Mainoo is sidelined. This will leave the Dutchman short of options in midfield.
