Manchester United handed huge boost as key player returns to training after lengthy injury absence: Reports
Manchester United have received a big injury boost as left-back Luke Shaw has returned to training on grass. However, he's only returned to individual training and will join team training in the coming days if all goes well.
Shaw has yet to make an appearance this season as he suffered an injury in pre-season. He first suffered a knee injury and then a calf injury and has been out since. With Tyrell Malacia also out due to injury, it was a big blow for Manchester United.
However, as per mufcMPB on X, Shaw has now returned to individual training on grass. He could, hence, make a potential return to action before November's international break. The English left-back has been an important player for the Red Devils over the years.
Shaw moved to Old Trafford from Southampton in 2014 and has made 275 appearances for them, registering four goals and 28 assists. However, he's also had numerous injury issues throughout his career, having missed around 60 games since the start of the 2023-24 season.
In Shaw's absence, manager Erik ten Hag has chosen to use Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, and Jonny Evans in the left-back positions this season. Malacia, meanwhile, has returned to team training and could return to action soon.
Manchester United legend offers support to Erik ten Hag amidst mounting pressure
Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United has been up in the air since the end of last season. After a lowest-ever eighth-placed finish in the Premier League, he led them to the FA Cup triumph. Despite this, the Red Devils spoke to different managers before extending Ten Hag's contract.
He's come under criticism again this season as United have won just four of their 11 games across competitions. Amidst the growing speculation, club legend Patrice Evra has shown his support for Ten Hag, saying (via Football365):
"I’m a straightforward guy. Even if you put the chef as a manager, I will support any manager.
“Three years [Ten Hag has] been at the club and, yes, he’s won two trophies. When you’re the manager of United, what people expect from you is to win the league every year. We need to stop talking about the past. This is not the United it used to be. We have to rebuild it.”
Manchester United are currently 12th in the Premier League table and 21st in the UEFA Europa League table. They will next face Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce away on Thursday, October 24.
