Manchester United handed huge injury boost as key player returns to training after lengthy spell on the sidelines
Manchester United have been handed a big injury boost as Luke Shaw has returned to team training, the club have confirmed. Shaw will now work to regain full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Shaw had been struggling with a calf injury, which he sustained during the pre-season. Due to this, he has yet to register an appearance for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 campaign.
Their second-choice left-back option Tyrell Malacia has been battling with fitness issues as well. The Dutchman has not registered a single appearance for the Red Devils this season as well.
In the absence of Shaw and Malacia, right-back options Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have rotated for the left-back position. Lisandro Martinez has played at the position as well.
However, this could all change after the international break as Shaw is expected to return. The Englishman’s return will also be beneficial for incoming head coach Ruben Amorim, who will be eager to salvage the Red Devils season.
Manchester United are currently 13th in the Premier League standings, having registered 12 points from 10 games. They are 15th in the Europa League standings with six points from four games.
Leny Yoro also back in training for Manchester United
Defender Leny Yoro is also nearing a return to competitive football after sustaining a foot injury during the Red Devils pre-season. The Frenchman joined Manchester United from Lille for a reported €62 million this summer but is yet to feature for them in the 2024-25 season.
While speaking in a press conference, interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy provided an update on Yoro's injury. He said (via Fabrizio Romano):
“It’s a big moment for him, that first time being back in team training."
He added:
“We’re going to get him back partially over the coming weeks and look to get him on board as quick as possible."
Yoro will possibly return to action during Ruben Amorim's tenure, who takes over as the full-time head coach on November 11.
