Manchester United keeping tabs on PL striker, rivals keen to sell player for £40 million fee - Reports

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding Brentford star Ivan Toney as they hope to add attacking reinforcement to their squad. Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford this year, having excelled in his time with the Bees.

Forbes reports that England international Toney has emerged as a viable option for the Red Devils this summer. The 28-year-old is wanted by the English giants, having already been previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Ivan Toney was once valued at £100 million by the Bees, but the London side may be willing to accept around £40 million for him. They will be reluctant to sell him this summer as their possible replacement for Toney, Igor Thiago, has suffered an injury to his meniscus. The Brazilian striker is expected to be out until the end of the year, at least.

Manchester United have found themselves in a familiar position with injuries this summer, with Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund having picked up injuries in their friendly against Arsenal. The injury to Hojlund is expected to heal fully in about six weeks, leaving the side with only one recognized centre-forward in Joshua Zirkzee.

Zirkzee has yet to make his first appearance for the club as he continues to enjoy an extended summer break following his involvement with the Netherlands at Euro 2024. With the Community Shield against Manchester City only days away (August 10), Erik ten Hag's side find themselves sweating over their attacking options, particularly for a striker.

Jadon Sancho was played as a striker in their most recent pre-season game against Liverpool which ended in a 3-0 defeat. The Englishman may continue in the position if another player is not brought in before the Community Shield.

Manchester United set to revive interest in LaLiga star - Reports

Manchester United are prepared to make a fresh move to sign Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona this summer, as per CaughtOffside. The Red Devils were keen on the Dutchman in 2022, pursuing him for months before eventually signing Casemiro.

Ten Hags's side will be willing to offer around £40 million to sign the midfielder, who remains sidelined through injury at the moment. The Red Devils were primed to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG but saw the deal fail to materialize over a difference in transfer valuations. The French giants want up to €60 million for the midfielder, a figure Manchester United will not match.

Manchester United have a number of targets in their sights, De Jong included, and will only sign a player they consider economically shrewd.
