Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand responds to former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo's adorable social media post
Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has reacted fondly to his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo's picture of his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and his five children. Rodriguez is the parent of two of them, and the couple co-parent the others.
The Al-Nassr captain is enjoying his off-season ahead of the new 2024-25 Saudi Pro League campaign. He's coming off a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign with Portugal, though, going scoreless in five games - a first in 11 major tournaments - as A Selecao lost to France in the quarter-final on penalties (5-3) after a goalless 120 minutes.
The 39-year-old posted an image of himself, Rodriguez and their five kids on a yacht overlooking the sea. Ronaldo's oldest kid - Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. - is seen standing on one side, with Rodriguez and her daughter on the other, with the three others kids standing in front of the couple.
Ferdinand responded to the pic with a heart emoji. Here's how he responded to Ronaldo's post on X, formerly called Twitter:
Ronaldo and Ferdinand were teammates at United between 2003 and 2009, with the former arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2003 and Ferdinand doing so a year earlier.
How Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand fared together at Manchester United?
Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed great success together during the latter's first stint at Manchester United. The club won three straight league titles (2007-09) and reached back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals (2008-09), winning in 2008.
Ferdinand and Ronaldo were together on the pitch in 221 games across competitions. The pair recorded no goal contributions, but Ronaldo enjoyed a prolific period, scoring 118 times in 292 games across competitions and winning the Ballon d'Or in 2008.
That includes a breakthrough 2007-08 season, where Ronaldo bagged an impressive 42 goals across competitions, including 31 in the league and eight in the UEFA Champions League, with Manchester United winning both competitions.
His exploits captured the attention of Real Madrid that summer. Although Ronaldo stayed put for a year, he eventually left on a then world-record transfer to Los Blancos, where he would score a record 450 times in 438 games across competitions.
