Manchester United loanee reportedly subjected to vile chanting in Spain

While playing on loan for Getafe in La Liga, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood was at the receiving end of nasty chants on Sunday (April 21). The Englishman was in action in their 1-1 draw at home against Real Sociedad.

Greenwood has spent the season on loan after receiving clearance to return to professional football in the absence of a conviction of rape and domestic violence. The 22-year-old was arrested in early 2022 on the suspicion of sexual and physical abuse of his partner Harriet Robson, but the case never went to court and he was released.

The cloud of his arrest and time away from football still hangs over Mason Greenwood's head despite the relative success of his loan spell so far. He was the subject of fan disapproval at Manchester United when his return was first discussed, and he has now faced a similar atmosphere in Spain.

Not for the first time this season, Greenwood was the subject of vile chanting from opposition fans. The forward was targeted by visiting Real Sociedad fans at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, the home ground of Getafe, as they hurled things like "Greenwood is a rapist" and "Kill yourself."

Getafe officials have taken note of the chants, as per media outlet Tjcope, and will detail it in their report to the Spanish FA. Greenwood could not help his side to win the game, which ended 1-1, leaving the Madrid-based club in 10th place in La Liga.

Mason Greenwood has had a good season in Spain, contributing six goals and five assists in 27 league appearances for Getafe. His form and contributions will make him a sellable asset for Manchester United in the summer.

Manchester United receive boost in pursuit of PL winger

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Michael Olise ahead of next season. The Red Devils have the Frenchman in their sights and hope to be able to land him to strengthen their squad.

Olise has been a quality performer for Crystal Palace since moving from Reading, and his form earned inquiries from Chelsea and Manchester City last summer. He has registered seven goals and four assists in 14 games this season. GIVEMESPORT now reports that the 22-year-old Frenchman is open to joining Erik ten Hag's side.

Manchester United will have to add quality to their attacking ranks following the struggles of certain players this season. A move for Olise would all but signify the end of Antony's time at the club after he failed to impress.
