Manchester United could look to sign Chelsea star if their pursuit of Alphonso Davies fails - Reports

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell if they fail in their attempt to sign Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies. The Red Devils are set to undergo major changes, particularly with the imminent arrival of manager Ruben Amorim, after a disappointing start to the 2024-25 season.

Bayern Munich star and Canada international Davies has emerged as a target for Manchester United amid his contract issues with the German club. The 23-year-old is in the final year of his deal at the club and will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January.

Manchester United are not the only side interested in Davies, who also features heavily in the radar of Real Madrid. The Red Devils acknowledge that they may not land the Canada captain and have readied a backup option in the event of this happening.

The Red Devils have Chelsea star Ben Chilwell on their list, according to a report from CaughtOffside. The former Leicester City man has been out of the Chelsea squad this season, with just one appearance to his name.

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both out injured and yet to appear this season, Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez have filled in at left-back for United. Seeing as neither is a natural left-back, the club has decided to try to sign a natural option in the position.

Chilwell appears to be a good fit for the position, seeing as incoming manager Ruben Amorim plays with wing-backs and not traditional full-backs. The 27-year-old is familiar with the role, having done so comfortably in his time at Stamford Bridge. The Red Devils will be able to land Chilwell on a cut-price deal as he has fallen out of favor at his present club.

Ruud van Nistelrooy set to take charge of Manchester United against Chelsea

Dutch manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to remain in charge of Manchester United for the visit of Chelsea, although in an interim capacity. The Red Devils are set to lock horns with the Blues in the Premier League on Sunday, November 3 at Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy was named as interim manager of the side after the sacking of Erik Ten Hag. He oversaw a 5-2 win over Leicester City in his first game in charge in the EFL Cup Round of 16 at home on Wednesday, October 30. The former PSV Eindhoven manager is now expected to remain in charge for the weekend despite the club reaching an agreement with Sporting CP for Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is expected to resume as manager of the Red Devils after the international break in November. They have agreed to trigger his release clause of €10 million from Sporting, and a contract until 2027 is in place.
