Manchester United could look to sign former target next summer if he doesn't leave current club - Reports
Manchester United have retained their interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils could make a move for the centre-back in the 2025 summer transfer window if he doesn't leave Everton in the ongoing window.
This is despite the fact that Erik ten Hag's side have spent over €100 million this window to bring in central defenders. Frenchman Leny Yoro moved from Ligue 1 side Lille for €62 million, while Matthijs de Ligt was signed from Bayern Munich for a fee of €45 million.
Along with the pair of new signings, their current options include Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof. Raphael Varane departed on the expiry of his contract to join Serie A side Como, while Lindelof has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
Branthwaite was one of Manchester United's earliest targets to solve their issues at the back. The 22-year-old impressed for the Toffees last season. He made 35 appearances in the league, helping keep 12 clean sheets while chipping in with three goals as well.
The Red Devils suffered due to a host of injuries last season, forcing them to use 14 centre-back partnerships. It led to a poor performance defensively throughout the season as they conceded 58 goals in the Premier League.
Barcelona manager earmarks Manchester United star as transfer target after Nico Williams pursuit fails
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has set his sights on Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford. According to Albert Fernandez of GOL, the Catalan giants are keen on signing a left winger.
Flick is seeking a player with good dribbling skills and goal-scoring talent to occupy the position. La Blaugrana were keen on signing Nico Williams, who eventually decided to stay at Athletic Bilbao. Other options mentioned include AC Milan's Rafael Leao, Juventus' Federico Chiesa, and Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman.
However, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can meet Manchester United's valuation for Rashford among their financial struggles. They have already spent €60 million this season, signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig.
The 26-year-old endured a difficult 2023-24 campaign, scoring just eight goals and setting up six more in 43 appearances. This came as a blow to the Red Devils after his previous year, where he had bagged 30 goals in all competitions, firing the side to a top-four finish in the league.
Despite his recent poor form, it remains to be seen if United will be willing to sell one of their academy stars and an attacker with proven Premier League pedigree.
