Manchester United open to selling star player they signed last summer - Reports
Manchester United are reportedly open to selling Mason Mount despite having signed him just last summer. The Englishman arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea for a reported fee of around £90 million.
The 25-year-old has had a turbulent stint with The Red Devils ever since his arrival to the club in the summer of 2023. The Englishman appeared in only 20 games for United in all competitions last season, scoring just one goal and registering another.
Mount, who inherited the No. 7 jersey that club icon Cristiano Ronaldo earlier held before his departure, scored his only goal for the club in United's 1-1 draw against Brentford in March this year.
This is in stark contrast to his performances for Chelsea. He was twice named as the club's Player of the Year. Furthermore, he assisted Kai Havertz in helping the Blues defeat Manchester City 1-0 to win the UEFA Champions League in 2021.
According to a report by HITC, several Premier League clubs have shown interest in signing Mason Mount in the summer. The clubs include Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
However, it remains to be seen whether Mount will continue with United for another season or switch to another club.
According to the report, Manchester United are also interested in offloading Antony. The former Ajax forward, who played under manager Erik ten Hag during his time at the Dutch club, has also fallen out of favour following his run-of-the-mill performances.
The Red Devils are willing to send him on loan should the club be willing to match his £70,000-a-week wages.
Manchester United keen on adding reinforcements to their squad to compete for Europa League title
The Red Devils won the FA Cup title after defeating defending champions Manchester City 2-1 in the final. As a result, they will be competing in the Europa League next season despite finishing eighth in the Premier League.
Manchester United have already completed the signings of defender Leny Yoro and forward Joshua Zirkzee.
The former was keen on joining Real Madrid but from the looks of it, United convinced the 18-year-old to join the Old Trafford club instead. He completed the move reported to be for an initial £52.2m, with potential add-ons worth almost £7m.
Yoro has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford with the option of a further 12 months. United signed Zirkzee from Serie A Bologna for a reported fee of €42.5million (£35.8m). He will move to Manchester United to test his mettle on English shores after helping Bologna secure European qualification for the first time in 60 years.
