Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho reacts after photo of him wearing Paulo Dybala's kit goes viral online
Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has reacted to a photo of him wearing Paulo Dybala's Argentina kit as a kid. The 20-year-old featured alongside Dybala as the world champions claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Chile in their FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, September 6.
Following the win over Chile where both players combined for a goal, a fan put up two pictures side by side. The first had a young Garnacho sporting a Dybala Argentina kit, while the second was of them celebrating together after the latter's goal in the game.
Alejandro Garnacho was likely still in the Atletico Madrid academy when the image was captured as he seemed quite young. He responded to the post on X with just two words, showing that he had felt emotional about the post.
"Just football🥹🤍," he wrote.
The unavailability of Lionel Messi due to injury meant a spot opened up for AS Roma forward Dybala. The attacker was handed the No. 10 shirt but had to start on the bench.
Alejandro Garnacho also started on the bench before coming on in the 79th minute following an injury to Alexis Mac Allister. Paulo Dybala was also introduced at the same time, replacing Lautaro Martinez up front.
Argentina remain atop the CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying standings with 18 points from seven girls.
Alejandro Garnacho and Paulo Dybala show Argentina's strength in depth in win over Chile
Argentina are one of the best teams in international football at present, a fact backed up by their No. 1 FIFA ranking. The world champions have lost just two games over five years, a period in which they have won four titles.
La Albiceleste needed magic from Alexis Mac Allister to open the scoring in the 48th minute against Chile. With the Chilean defense tiring, Lionel Scaloni had the luxury to introduce Alejandro Garnacho and Paulo Dybala off the bench after 79 minutes.
New Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez doubled Argentina's lead in the 84th minute before Paulo Dybala made it three in added time (90+1). The AS Roma man received a pass from Alejandro Garnacho following a Chilean turnover before rifling an effort into the bottom corner from inside the box.
Argentina will look to continue their excellent form when they face Colombia in a repeat of the 2024 Copa America final on Tuesday, September 10.
