Manchester United star pictured on crutches amid speculation over his future
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof was snapped using crutches as talk of a potential Old Trafford exit continues to grow. The Swede played no part in the Red Devils' 1-0 win against Fulham in the Premier League's opening game last night (August 16).
Lindelof's wife Maja Nilsson posted a snap of her partner on her Instagram story. She captioned it:
"Doing everything in slow motion these days."
Lindelof, 30, seemingly sustained a knock in Manchester United's 3-0 loss to Liverpool in a pre-season friendly (August 3). He was subbed off at half-time, and Erik ten Hag said it was done as a 'precautionary measure.'
The Sweden captain missed United's 7-6 penalty shootout loss (1-1 draw) to Manchester City in the Community Shield. He appears to be nursing a knock heading into the latter stages of the summer transfer window.
Reports claim Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt is interested in signing Lindelof, who has a year left on his contract. The Red Devils are thought to value the veteran center-back at around £10-15 million.
Lindelof spoke about his future earlier this year and revealed he was doing his coaching badges. He suggested retirement was still a long way away (via Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen):
"You never know what will happen in the future. I think it is better to do it now than after the career so I have done it. If something comes up when you stop, you have done it. I am not quite there but I hope I have a few years left as a player.”
Lindelof has been a mainstay in United's side since arriving from Benfica in July 2017. He's made 259 appearances and played multiple defensive positions last season.
Fiorentina are reportedly also interested in Manchester United's Victor Lindelof
Lindelof faces an uphill battle in reclaiming a spot in Ten Hag's side once he returns from injury. The Dutch coach has welcomed two new center-backs (Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro) to Old Trafford.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Fiorentina is monitoring Lindelof. The Serie A side is reportedly in talks with Manchester United regarding a potential deal.
The two clubs have a good relationship based on Sofyan Amrabat's recent loan. The Swedish defender might be considering his future and reuniting with the Moroccan at Viola in Italy.
Manchester United could use player sales as they look to continue rebuilding Ten Hag's squad. They are prioritizing signing a new midfielder but are relying on departures to strengthen other positions further.
