Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has pulled out of Argentina's squad for this month's international fixtures through injury. The former Ajax man was on the pitch for the entirety of the game as United overcame Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday in the Premier League.
Having missed a huge chunk of the 2023-24 season through injury, Martinez has largely remained fit since the start of the 2024-25 season. The centre-back has featured 10 times in the Premier League for the Red Devils, filling in at left-back on occasion.
Journalist Gaston Edul has reported that the 26-year-old will be absent from La Albiceleste's squad to face Paraguay and Peru in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The defender had been named in Lionel Scaloni's 28-man squad for the games on November 15 and 20.
The report from the journalist indicates that the defender has left the Argentine camp and will return to Manchester to undergo tests on a knock he suffered while on duty with the Red Devils. Martinez came on as a substitute in the world champions' last game, a 6-0 whitewash of Bolivia in Buenos Aires, in October.
Martinez becomes the latest in a long list of Premier League players to pull out of this month's internationals due to physical issues. This month's international break is the third of the 2024-25 season so far, all three of which have come in successive months.
