Manchester United star undergoes surgery following injury in pre-season clash

Leny Yoro, Manchester United's newest signing, has undergone successful surgery following the foot injury he suffered in pre-season. The 18-year-old is likely to be out of action for three months.

It was earlier reported that Yoro would be out for three to six weeks after suffering an injury in the pre-season friendly against Arsenal in Los Angeles, USA. However, Manchester United have confirmed that they will have to wait much longer to have their newest signing at their disposal.

"Yoro’s rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months," ManUtd.com reported.

This is not the only injury news that the 20-time English champions are dealing with. Their summer preparation for the 2024-25 season has been far from ideal, having lost to rivals Arsenal and Liverpool while injuries to striker Rasmus Hojlund and Yoro heaped further misery on under-fire manager Erik ten Haag.

Manchester United have huge hopes from Leny Yoro

The teenage centre-back, who was signed from Lille for a reported fee of €62 million, rising to €70 million, may not have played long for Manchester United but he is not short of admirers. Manager Erik ten Haag and former captain Harry Maguire both heaped praise on the 18-year-old Frenchman earlier.

The Red Devils manager was impressed with Yoro after the first training session itself. He said:

"For the first time, after just one training [session], it’s a very mature performance. That’s what we saw when we scouted him. It’s great to have him," he said. "He’s a very young, talented centre‑back and there’s a lot to come. He’s here, we think he can play but there’s so many games that he’ll be in a group of four or five defenders.”

Centre-back Harry Maguire believes the Frenchman has a bright future in front of him.

"We must remind ourselves he is really young. There are gonna be mistakes, but he has every attribute of a centre-back in the modern game, so I’m sure he’s gonna have a bright future,” said the 31-year old.

With the limited time he has taken to impress his new teammates and the management, Leny Yoro's return will be highly anticipated by the Manchester United faithful.
