Manchester United star withdraws from national team due to injury as Manchester United suffer fresh setback: Reports

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has withdrawn himself from Argentina's forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualification games against Venezuela and Bolivia, according to a report by Fabrizio Romano.

In a post which was posted on X by the Italian Journalist, the Manchester United winger was quoted saying:

"I had knee problems in the last two matches, and I won't be able to be with the national team, I hope to recover soon, so I can be on the next date.”

The 20-year-old has been on the scoresheet three times, registering three assists as well, in 10 games across all competitions for the Red Devils this season so far.

Garnacho’s injury could be a big blow for Erik ten Hag's side as the winger has proven to be an important player for the Red Devils in recent times. His potential absence could be felt in the squad as Manchester United have suffered what could be termed as their poorest start to a Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils have only registered eight points from seven league games and are currently ranked 14th on the table, five points above the relegation zone.

In the potential absence of Garnacho, Ten Hag will be left with three wingers to rely on, Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Amad Diallo. However, if the Argentine winger could regain his fitness after the international break, he could feature against Brentford in the league, on October 19.

While there are a lot of speculations surrounding his future at Old Trafford, Manchester United's hierarchy might evaluate Ten Hag's performance during the international break.

There's no doubt that things are not going as planned for the Red Devils despite sufficiently boosting their squad last summer. In the league, Manchester United are currently in the bottom half of the 2024-25 table. Similarly, they have only picked up two points out of a possible six from two UEFA Europa League games.

The above has raised concerns on social media concerning the tactics and pattern of the current manager, with some supporters calling for his dismissal, due to poor results.

However, the current international break could serve as a breath of fresh air for the manager as it could also be a time for the club to evaluate Ten Hag's future, whose position as a manager has come under scrutiny in recent times.

If the Dutchman is dismissed by the Red Devils hierarchy, he stands to receive a potential settlement fee of £17.5 million, according to GOAL.
