"Manchester United still have a chance to win that league" - Mourinho aims cheeky dig at Manchester City about 2017-18 PL season

Former Manchester United and current Fenerbahce SK boss Jose Mourinho has made a cheeky remark ahead of his side's UEFA Europa League clash against the Old Trafford outfit. Mourinho was notably in charge of the Red Devils from 2016 to 2018.

In the 2017-18 season, United finished second to Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title. Manchester Ctiy are being investigated for breaking FFP (Financial Fairplay) rules of the Premier League for previous seasons.

It has been speculated that teams like Liverpool and Manchester United could be rewarded with some of the titles earned by Cityzens if they are found guilty. These titles could be awarded to the second-placed sides for the respective seasons.

While speaking in the pre-match press conference of the UEFA Europa League clash against Manchester United, Jose Mourinho said (as per Fabrizio Romano's post on X):

“I think Man Utd still have a chance to win that league [2017/18 season] if they punish Manchester City. In that case, I hope they give me my medal and pay me the bonus!"

In nearly two and a half seasons at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho showcased some magic. In his very first season, he won the UEFA Europa League, the League Cup and the English Super Cup.

The following season, the Red Devils secured 81 points and finished second in the Premier League to Pep Guardiola's City, who achieved 100 points.

Manchester United to face a tough Fenerbahce side

Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce will take on Manchester United tomorrow (October 24) at the Sukru Saracoglu. The Turkish side undoubtedly have been the better side in the continental event.

They are currently placed 13th with four points from two matches. In their opening clash, they defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1 before playing out a 1-1 draw with FC Twente in their next clash.

United meanwhile, are placed 21st in the standings. They have played two games so far, against FC Twente and FC Porto and have drawn both fixtures.

Speaking of the domestic league, Fenerbahce are placed fourth in the Turkish Super Lig. They will come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw with Samsunspor.

United. on the other hand, are 12th in the Premier League table. They were languishing in 14th place but a 2-1 win over Brentford this past weekend helped Erik ten Hag's side climb two spots.

A win against Fenerbahce will be the need of the hour for the Red Devils. It will hand their first victory of the Europa League campaign and also provide a major boost to the morale of the squad.
