Manchester United Transfer News Roundup: Red Devils eyeing AS Roma ace; Fenerbahce want Victor Lindelof, and more - June 27, 2024
Manchester United endured a mixed 2023-24 campaign under Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager won the FA Cup but could only manage an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are interested in AS Roma attacker Paulo Dybala. Elsewhere, Fenerbahce have set their sights on Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, an United target.
On that note, here's a look at the key Manchester United transfer stories as on June 27, 2024:
Manchester United eyeing Paulo Dybala
Manchester United are considering a move for Paulo Dybala this summer, according to The Mirror. The Argentinean has emerged as a target for Erik ten Hag, who wants to add more creativity to his roster ahead of the new campaign.
Dybala is coming off a decent campaign with AS Roma, registering 16 goals and 10 assists in 39 games across competitions. The 30-year-old reportedly has a nominal release clause in his deal, according to reports.
The player's contract with the Serie A side expires in 2025, and they are likely to consider his departure this summer rather than lose him for free next year. The Red Devils are looking for an experienced forward to complement Rasmus Hojlund, and Dybala could be a cost-effective option.
Fenerbahce want Victor Lindelof, says journalist
Fenerbahce are keen to bring Victor Lindelof to Turkey this summer, according to journalist Dharmesh Sheth. The Swedish defender enters the final year of his contract with Manchester United next month but hasn't been offered a new deal yet.
Lindelof is no longer a first-team regular at Old Trafford, and his future remains up in the air. The 29-year-old registered 28 appearances across competitions in the 2023-24 campaign. The Red Devils are apparently willing to listen to offers for the player this summer, and Fenerbahce are interested.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sheth added that Jose Mourinho could be plotting a reunion with his former player in Istanbul.
“Definitely there is an interest from Fenerbahce for Victor Lindelof. And look, as far as we're aware, there hasn't been a formal approach as yet, but that could come in the coming weeks.
"With regard to Lindelof himself, he's into the final year of his contract, and as yet, currently, no talks to extend that deal," said Sheth.
He continued:
“So if you put two and two together, you would think that if a suitable offer was to come along, then I think Manchester United would take a serious look at that offer.
"And there is that link, Jose Mourinho was the manager at Manchester United when Manchester United signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica in the summer of 2017.”
Lindelof has appeared 259 times for the Premier League giants across competitions.
Red Devils eyeing Manuel Ugarte, says Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United have discussed the possibilities of a move for Manuel Ugarte this summer, according to acclaimed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils are in the market for a new midfielder this summer, and the Uruguayan has emerged as an option.
Ugarte arrived at Paris Saint-Germain from Sporting last year and has done a decent job. He was a first-team regular in the 2023-24 campaign, registering 37 appearances across competitions, but the French champions could be willing to let him go this year.
In his column for Caught Offside, Romano added that the Premier League giants have a genuine interest in the 23-year-old.
“I spoke yesterday about Manchester United and PSG having contacts to discuss Manuel Ugarte and other players.
"Ugarte has chances to leave PSG this summer, so let’s see what happens with that one, but I don’t have any guaranteed info on the other players discussed, so at the moment I’m not in the position to mention specific names,” wrote Romano.
He continued:
“All I can say for now is that I’m told they discussed several opportunities, including Ugarte who’s appreciated by Man United. No bid has been sent yet, but interest is genuine.
"The relationship between the two clubs is very good, so let’s see what happens with Ugarte and if any other players get involved too."
He concluded:
“United know that several players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could be on the move this summer, while they still have to decide what they want to do with the future of on-loan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, and so midfield is an area they’re looking at, and Ugarte is one name they appreciate.”
Ugarte could be a fine replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford, with the Brazilian expected to be on his way out this summer.
