Manchester United Transfer News Roundup: Red Devils not in talks for Serie A ace; Adrien Rabiot wants Old Trafford move, and more - August 7, 2024
Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, 31 points behind champions Manchester City. However, manager Erik ten Hag salvaged some pride by defeating their local rivals 2-1 in the FA Cup final.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are not in talks to sign Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries. Elsewhere, free agent Adrien Rabiot is ready to move to Old Trafford this summer.
On that note, here's a look at the key Manchester United transfer stories as on August 7, 2024:
Manchester United not in talks for Denzel Dumfries, says Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United are not in talks to sign Denzel Dumfries this summer, according to acclaimed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils are expected to sign a new right-back this year amid the uncertainties surrounding the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Englishman is closing in on a move to West Ham United, so Ten Hag is likely to seek a new face to take his place in the squad. Dumfries is a long-term target for the Premier League giants and remains linked with them this summer as well.
However, in his column for Caught Offside, Romano said that Manchester United remain focussed on Bayern Munich's Noussair Mazraoui for the position.
“Another United story that has gained a lot of attention in recent hours is with Denzel Dumfries. At the moment, I’m still told that Man United’s focus remains on Noussair Mazraoui as their priority target,” wrote Romano.
He continued:
"There’s still no agreement with Bayern but the player is also waiting for United, so the right-back story remains with full focus on Mazraoui. Dumfries will not sign a new contract in August, but if he’s staying at Inter beyond August it remains a possibility for him to extend.”
Dumfries is under contract with Inter Milan until 2025, so the Nerazzurri could consider his exit this year.
Adrien Rabiot want Old Trafford move, says Fabrizio Romano
Adrien Rabiot is eager to move to the Premier League this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The French midfielder remains heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, who are also looking for a new midfielder this summer.
Ten Hag is looking to revamp his options in the middle of the park following an underwhelming campaign. Rabiot is available on a Bosman move this year, following the expiry of his contract with Juventus.
However, on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the Red Devils are wary of the finances of a possible deal.
“The position is focus on Ugarte because Rabiot is asking for a very important salary. Rabiot turned down salary of €7 million per season over four years at Juventus, so he wants more than this," said Romano.
He continued:
"Then there is a signing fee when you sign a free agent, and he’d be an expensive free agent. So that’s why Manchester United know that there is this possibility.
"The player would be super keen on playing in the Premier League. It’s his dream. I'm told it’s not close or imminent but, with Rabiot, anything can happen.”
The Premier League giants are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Manuel Ugarte this summer.
PSG yet to submit offer for Jadon Sancho, says Fabrizio Romano
PSG are yet to submit an offer for Jadon Sancho this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The English forward's future at Manchester United is subject to speculation at the moment.
Sancho fell out with Ten Hag last season and was shipped off to Borussia Dortmund in January on loan. However, that's all water under the bridge right now, with the 24-year-old resolving his differences with the manager this summer.
Sancho has been a regular fixture for Manchester United in pre-season, but recent reports have suggested that the club are willing to consider his departure. It has also been mentioned that the Parisians have Sancho on their radar this summer.
However, Romano has said that the Red Devils are yet to receive an offer for the 24-year-old. The final decision on Sancho's future will depend on the Premier League giants and Ten Hag.
