Manchester United Transfer News Roundup: Red Devils want Miguel Guttierez; club eyeing Dutch star, and more - July 15, 2024

Manchester United are preparing for the upcoming campaign, buoyed by a series of changes implemented behind the scenes by INEOS. The new minority owners are determined to get the club back to their glory days and are planning to use the summer to the fullest.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have set their sights on Girona full-back Miguel Guttierez. Elsewhere, the Premier League giants are interested in PSG midfielder Xavi Simons.

On that note, here's a look at the key Manchester United transfer stories as on July 15, 2024:

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Miguel Gutierrez, according to acclaimed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Ten Hag is looking for a new left-back this summer following the injury troubles of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

The English full-back appeared just 15 times across competitions last season, battling muscle injuries throughout the campaign. Malacia, meanwhile, was sidelined for the entire season with fitness issues as well.

Ten Hag wants to rope in a suitable option for the position this summer and has found his man in Gutierrez. The Spaniard was exceptional for Girona last season, scoring two goals and setting up nine in 40 games across competitions.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano added that the Red Devils also have their eyes on Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez.

"He (Miguel Gutierrez) could be one of the options. He's one of the players they've been monitoring. At the moment, I'm not aware of direct negotiations with Girona, to be honest, but he could be one of the names," said Romano.

He continued:

"So we know that Manchester United want to add one more left-back. We already mentioned Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth as an option - it's not an easy one because Bournemouth want to keep the player for one more season and maybe sell him next summer for a higher value. So it's not an easy one, but Kerkez is there."

Real Madrid reportedly have a buyback clause in Gutierrez's contract, which could complicate matters for the Premier League giants.

Red Devils eyeing Xavi Simons, says Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are monitoring Xavi Simons with interest, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Dutch midfielder spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain.

Simons registered 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 games across competitions, apparently turning heads at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are looking to make smart additions to their squad under INEOS, and the 21-year-old could be a fantastic choice.

However, speaking on his Playback channel, Romano said that Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are leading the race for Simons this summer.

“Let me say that the interest of Premier League clubs, Man United, but not only, in Xavi Simons, is something real, because they asked about the conditions of the deal with Paris Saint-Germain, knowing that the player will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer," said Romano.

He continued:

“So Manchester United interest is genuine, but it's not something concrete or advanced at this stage, because I'm told that the two clubs really pushing and still leading the race for Xavi Simons are Bayern and Red Bull Leipzig.”

Simons' contract with the Parisians expires in 2027.

Manchester United locked in talks for Matthijs de Ligt, says Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are locked in talks with Bayern Munich for the services of Matthijs de Ligt, according to Fabrizio Romano. Ten Hag is keen to script a reunion with his former player this summer.

The manager has been forced into action following Raphael Varane's departure. De Ligt could be a fine replacement. The 24-year-old is no longer first-choice at Bayern and is reportedly keen to join the Premier League giants.

On his Playback channel, Romano added that the Red Devils are putting all their efforts into signing De Ligt after securing Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee.

“I wanted to clarify that even this weekend (just gone), Manchester United keep working on the deal for Matthijs de Ligt. The negotiation between Man United and Bayern continues," said Romano.

He continued:

"Of course, in the last two or three days, Man United have been busy with the documents and the formal steps for the deal for Joshua Zirkzee, but they are actively working on the deal for Matthijs de Ligt, so negotiations are ongoing.”

Ten Hag reportedly has his eyes on Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite as well this summer.
