"Maresca better bench him", "Most unreliable player in the team" - Fans slam Chelsea star after his showing in 1-1 Arsenal draw
Fans have reacted to Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill's performance in the 1-1 Premier League home draw with Arsenal on Sunday (November 11). The stalemate was the Blues' second on the trot in the league.
Following a goalless first 45 minutes, the Gunners drew first blood through Gabriel Martinelli at the hour mark. However, the lead was short-lived, as the Blues equalised through Pedro Neto 10 minutes later as a share of the spoils ensued at Stamford Bridge.
However, fans were far from impressed with Colwill's performance, with one tweeting:
"Maresca better bench Colwill on our next game"
Another chimed in:
"Notes: Jesus certain players did not show up. Colwill stinks. He is the most reliable player in the team. This fanbase kisses his a** because he's cobham and English. It's absurd. Petro Neto was a FORCE. Caicedo brilliant brilliant brilliant. Madueke BENCH"
One fan simply said:
"Colwill is terrible"
There were similar reactions from other fans as well, with one tweeting:
"Colwill they can never make me rate you"
Another commented:
"Whoever gassed up Colwill, have some shame"
One fan posted:
"Colwill just don't have the quality defender gene. He needs to be an inverted CDM or something. Disasi is better than this fraud."
Following the stalemate, Enzo Maresca's side are third in the standings, ahead of the fourth-placed Arsenal on goal difference, after 11 games.
"We are going to compete in every game" - Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca after Arsenal draw
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has said that his team have shown the ability to compete as his side continued their bright start to the season, especially in the league, where they are unbeaten in three games.
The Blues came from behind for the second straight league game - first at Manchester United a week ago - to remain third in the Premier League table. Maresca said (as per the BBC) following the draw with Arsenal:
"We can compete, I've said that many times. We can compete, no matter what the competition, despite the fact there are clubs, like Arsenal, that have had the same manager for five years. We are behind, but this doesn't mean we aren't going to compete. We are Chelsea, and we are going to compete in every game.
"We created problems initially (through Cole Palmer's position), and they adjusted and we have to find another find. We did exactly the same to them."
Chelsea next take on Leicester City away on November 23 in the Premier League, following the upcoming international break.
