Mason Mount shares message for Erik ten Hag on social media after Manchester United part ways with Dutch coach: Reports
Manchester United midfielder shared a message for Erik ten Hag after the latter's sacking. The Dutchman was sacked on Monday, October 28, after a poor start to the 2024-25 campaign.
The Red Devils have won just four of their 14 games across competitions this season. They sit 14th in the Premier League table and 21st in the UEFA Europa League league-stage table. They have won just one of their last eight games across competitions.
Manchester United lost 2-1 against West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Sunday, October 27. The next day, the club announced Ten Hag's sacking. Mason Mount put up a picture of himself with the Dutchman on his Instagram story with the caption:
"Thank you gaffer. Wish you all the best for the future."
Mount joined Manchester United under Erik ten Hag from Chelsea last summer for a reported fee of £55 million. He had an injury-laden first season at the club, making just 20 appearances across competitions and contributing one goal and one assist. He's made just five appearances across competitions this season.
Paul Scholes offers opinion on next Manchester United manager
After Erik ten Hag's sacking, club legend and assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as an interim manager for Manchester United. The club hierarchy, meanwhile, are looking for a new permanent manager and have been heavily linked with Ruben Amorim (via The Athletic).
Club legend Paul Scholes, though, has some doubts regarding the Portuguese manager and shared some alternatives as well. He said on the Premier League Productions (via Manchester Evening News):
“Amorim is an interesting one. But, again, that is a risky one. We all know the style of play. [Amorim] plays really good football. We’ve been talking about him for City. that obviously tells you something about his pedigree.
"Most of these managers, they’ve been at clubs where the expectation probably is not as high. I look at Thomas Frank and I see that. He might be a very capable manager for Manchester United but expectations are not [at Brentford] what they are at Manchester United..."
Scholes also named Zinedine Zidane as his pick but pointed out that he could have language barriers:
“This is one of the very biggest clubs in the world, so they should have the very best in class. Zidane is the one who has been at a major, major club and won major honours. But I am not sure how educated he is with the English language or whether he actually wants to come to England. You never get that feeling with him.”
Zidane managed Real Madrid across two stints and won the UEFA Champions League three years in a row (2016-2018), among other honors. He is currently without a managerial job.
