“Messi hit you, it’s okay” - When 2-year-old girl’s dad reacted to Lionel Messi’s free-kick hitting her in the face

Following a MLS match between Inter Miami and Orlando City on March 2, a father's reaction to his daughter getting struck by a Lionel Messi free-kick went viral. The legendary Argentine's shot went well above the goal and hit the two-year-old in the stands.

Messi is remarkably efficient from dead-ball situations, with 66 goals from direct free-kicks to his name. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's exploits and achievements in the sport have earned him millions of fans worldwide, who flock to watch his games.

After being struck, the young girl's father could be heard consoling her, saying:

"Did the ball hit you? Are you okay my love? Messi hit you. Messi hit you, It's okay."

Lionel Messi is currently on international duty with Argentina. He is looking to lead his nation to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where La Albiceleste will attempt to defend their title.

Lionel Messi has issued a rallying cry after Inter Miami were knocked out in the first round of the MLS playoffs by Atlanta United. The Miami-based outfit won the first match of the best-of-three series but lost the next two.

Messi has been phenomenal for the MLS side since he joined them in the summer of 2023. The Barcelona legend has helped them to their two maiden trophies since his arrival, the Leagues Cup and Supporters' Shield, and recently become the highest goalscorer in the club's history (34).

Taking to Instagram after his side fell 3-2 to the side from Georgia in the third game of the playoff fixture, Messi said:

"A season ended in which we continued to grow as a club and, although we achieved some goals, we wanted more, thanks to all the people who joined and supported us. Now let's get ready to come back stronger next year."

Lionel Messi will look back with pride on his performances for the Herons in the recently concluded season. The 37-year-old scored 23 goals while setting up 13 more from 25 matches across competitions.
