“Messi’s owned Madrid since 19” - Fans deliver hilarious responses to claims that Kylian Mbappe is the youngest football club owner in Europe
Football fans on X shared hilarious comments about Lionel Messi in response to Le Parisien claiming that Kylian Mbappe is "youngest club owner in Europe." The publication's claims were in reference to Mbappe buying 80% shares of the Ligue 2 side Caen in a deal worth $20 million.
As per Euro News, the Frenchman will own the majority of the shares of the club, while 5% will be retained by the Chairman of the advisory board, Pierre-Antin Capton.
In response to the news, fans on X cracked hilarious jokes about "owning a club", mentioning other players like Lionel Messi and Vinicius Jr. Here are some of the reactions:
"Not true cuz vini owns brokealona," a fan joked.
"He own 2 clubs actually he own Barcelona too," another netizen wrote.
"Messi already owned a club at the age of 19," a user quipped.
"Caen na decent club sha. That’s good for him," a user wrote.
"Lamine Yamal do something," added another user.
"Retirement destination," an individual laughed.
Most of the jokes were digs on players performing exceptionally well against a certain club, which fans dubbed as 'owning'.
The popular responses included La Pulga having a consistently great record against Mbappe's current club, Real Madrid. Some also joked about Kylian 'owning' Barcelona, alluding to his performances against the Catalan club.
Looking back at the last time Kylian Mbappe's Paris St-Germain faced Lionel Messi's Barcelona
Barcelona and Paris St-Germain have faced each other multiple times in the UEFA Champions League, including last season when the French giants won 6-4 on aggregate.
However, they faced each other only once when Lionel Messi was playing for Barca and Mbappe was at PSG - in the 2020-21 Champions League Round of 16. The season was notably the Argentine's last at Barcelona before his move to the Ligue 1 giants in 2021.
The first leg was a huge success for PSG, with Kylian Mbappe scoring an insane hat-trick against the Catalan giants. They won the game 4-1, with Mbappe finding the net in the 32nd, 65th and 85th minutes. Moise Kean scored PSG's other goal in the 70th minute.
Meanwhile, Barcelona could find the net only once, when the Argentine converted a penalty in the 27th minute in an otherwise disappointing show from the Blaugrana. They could not turn it around in the second leg either, although Kylian Mbappe and Messi found the net for their respective sides.
This time, it was Kylian Mbappe who converted a penalty in the 31st minute, while La Pulga found the net in the 37th minute. The Argentine also missed a penalty for Barcelona although it would not have made any difference given Paris St-German was already leading 5-2 on aggregate.
