“Might actually cook with this” - Fans believe 24-year-old Manchester United star will resurrect career in Ruben Amorim’s new line-up in training
Manchester United fans are optimistic about Antony's chances of regaining his form under Ruben Amorim. The former Sporting manager took charge as the Red Devils' new head coach last week and oversaw his first training session on Monday, November 18.
Amorim found great success with his 3-4-3 system at Sporting. One eagle-eyed fan noticed that the Portuguese had set Manchester United up in the same formation in training, writing on X:
"Watching the 7 minute training clip. This is what it looks like: Yoro- Evans - Shaw / Antony - Case - Mainoo - Malacia / Amad - Mount / Rashford."
What was surprising, however, was the use of Antony as a right wingback. One fan backed the Brazilian to excel in the position, replying:
"Antony wingback arc."
Another wasn't entirely convinced, posting:
"Antony has the work rate to succeed as a wingback. He’ll have to want it himself tho."
One insisted that Antony could resurrect his Manchester United career as a wingback, stating:
"Each I think about Amorim system I think Antony has a good chance in the wingback position to resurrect his united career."
Another noted:
"Antony wing back, he gets it."
One fan also praised Ruben Amorim for using Marcus Rashford in the center forward role, adding:
"Amorim gets it man, RWB Antony & CF Rashford."
One fan pointed out that Antony's work ethic will bode well for the position, commenting:
"We might actually cook with this. Antony is a hard worker."
Another posted:
"Chat antony RB arc is coming."
It has to be mentioned that many of Manchester United's first-team stars are away on international duty and things could change once they return. Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui could get the nod ahead of Antony for the position. Ruben Amorim's first game in charge is away to Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24, in the Premier League.
How many goals has Antony scored for Manchester United?
Antony followed Erik ten Hag to Manchester United in the summer of 2022 as one of the most exciting forwards from Eredivisie. The Red Devils paid Ajax approximately £82m for his signature, but the Brazilian has failed to live up to expectations so far.
This season, Antony has appeared just five times across competitions, only one of which has been from the start. The 24-year-old has registered just 12 goals and five assists from 87 games across competitions for the Red Devils and his contract runs until 2027.
