“My wife told me If I did that I wouldn’t be able to come home” - Dani Carvajal opens up on hilarious bet he considered over Euro 2024 final
Dani Carvajal recently revealed if he had a bet in place for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 final. Spain will take on England in the summit clash at Olypmiastadion Berlin on Sunday, July 14.
Carvajal is the first-choice right-back for La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente. He made four appearances at Euro 2024 before missing the semi-final against France due to suspension. Spain beat Les Bleus 2-1 to secure a place in the final on Sunday.
In an interview ahead of the final, Carvajal was asked if he had any bets if they won. The Real Madrid legend answered (via Madrid Xtra):
“No, nothing, I thought about shaving my beard in case of winning but my wife told me if I did that I wouldn't be able to come back home.”
Carvajal has been married to Daphne Canizares, a model and social media influencer, since 2022. The couple have been dating since 2018. They welcomed their first child Martin in 2020 and second child Mauro in 2023.
Carvajal, meanwhile, has made 48 appearances for Spain, registering one goal and seven assists. He has won one UEFA Nations League trophy with them and will be keen to win the Euro 2024.
Spain take on England in Euro 2024 final after contrasting journeys
Spain have dominated UEFA Euro 2024 so far and have arguably been the best team in the tournament. They have won all their games, including an extra-time win over hosts Germany in the quarter-finals.
La Roja were the only team to have a perfect record during the group stage. They beat Croatia 3-0, Italy 1-0, and Albania 1-0 to top Group B. They then beat debutants Georgia 4-1 in the Round of 16 before beating Germany 2-1 in the quarter-finals after extra time. Spain then got past France 2-1 to reach the final.
England, meanwhile, have won just two games in 90 minutes at Euro 2024. They beat Serbia 1-0 in their opening game, which was the only win among four teams in Group C. They drew 1-1 against Denmark and 0-0 against Slovenia.
The Three Lions then beat Slovakia 2-1 after extra time in the Round of 16 before getting past Switzerland in the quarter-finals. Their second win within the regulation 90 mins came in the form of a narrow 2-1 win over the Netherlands in the semi-finals.
They have now reached back-to-back finals at Euros, having done so in 2021 as well, where they lost against Italy on penalties.
