"Next year the objective is the same" - Carlo Anceloti outlines Real Madrid's goals for 2025 after an 'outstanding' year for the LaLiga giants
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has outlined Real Madrid's goals for 2025, with 2024 coming to an end in the coming weeks. The legendary Italian tactician enjoyed an impressive calendar year with Los Blancos, as he led them to win LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League.
Ancelotti also led them to win the Supercopa de Espana, the UEFA Super Cup, and most recently, the Intercontinental Cup. After winning the latter at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on December 18, Real Madrid have returned to the Santiago Bernabeu. They will take on Sevilla at home on December 22 in their final league game of the calendar year.
Speaking to the press ahead of their Sevilla game, Carlo Ancelotti spoke about his happiest and saddest moments of 2024. He said (via Madrid Universal):
“The happiest… there are many. It’s been a fantastic year, maybe unrepeatable, I don’t know. We will try because this squad has a very high level. Maybe the Champions League has been the happiest, it always is."
“The saddest… I don’t know because we haven’t lost much this year. The 0-4 against Barcelona, maybe. I ask Santa Claus for no more criticism in 2025. But that’s normal, I’ve already said that.”
The Italian went on to grade Real Madrid's 2024 and spoke about the club's goals in 2025:
“An ‘A’, considering the many difficulties we have had. Despite everything, we have won five titles. Next year the objective will be the same: to compete, fight and win the Champions League. Again.”
Real Madrid sits in third place on the LaLiga table with 37 points from 17 matches. Despite their position, they have a game in hand over league leaders Barcelona, with just one point separating both clubs. Los Blancos are also one point behind local rivals Atletico Madrid, who are in second place.
Carlo Ancelotti speaks about Real Madrid facing Sevilla
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has spoken about facing Sevilla in their final game of 2024 before Spanish clubs go on a Christmas break. Los Nervionenses are sitting in midtable - 11th place with 22 points from 17 games - and they will need to take points from Los Blancos to rise higher.
Ancelotti said (via Madrid Universal):
“We’re back after many away games… and we want to finish 2024 well. Sevilla compete, they are tough, but the aim will be to finish the year with a win."
The manager referred to the match against Sevilla as 'unfortunate', explaining:
“Because we could have gone on holiday after the Intercontinental, nothing more. And because it will be a tough match. It’s a risky one. Last-ditch effort.”
After the Sevilla game, Real Madrid will return to LaLiga when they face Valencia on January 3. They will also be in action in the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de Espana, and the UEFA Champions League in January.
