Neymar Jr reacts on social media as LeBron James mimics his celebration after gold medal win at 2024 Olympics
Brazilian star Neymar was pleased to see Basketball star LeBron James perform one of his signature celebrations after leading Team USA to gold at the just-concluded 2024 Paris Olympics.
James, 39 was instrumental for Team USA as they defeated host nation France 98-87 in the final match of the basketball event. The Los Angeles Lakers star was named Most Valuable Player after registering 14 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists in the game.
After propelling Team USA to a record-extending 17th basketball Olympics gold medal, James mimicked one of Neymar's celebrations. The NBA star raised his hands close to his ears and started folding them in a back-and-forth motion like the Al-Hilal forward.
Neymar reacted by reposting the photo on his Instagram story with the caption:
"U deserve King."
It's worth noting that the Brazilian forward is also an Olympic gold medallist. In 2016, Neymar captained Brazil to their first-ever Olympic gold medal in the football event.
The 32-year-old has been out of action since October 2023 when he picked up a season-ending ACL injury in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay. However, he is in the final stages of recovery and is expected to play a huge role for Al-Hilal in the upcoming season.
When Neymar won Olympics gold medal for Brazil
Brazil's exploits in the football event at the 2016 Olympic Games cannot be told without mentioning the heroics of Neymar. Playing on home soil, Brazil, led by Neymar, went undefeated, beating Germany 5-4 on penalties (after 1-1 in regular time) in the final at the iconic Maracana stadium.
Brazil began the tournament slowly, recording consecutive draws against South Africa and Iraq, before beating Denmark 4-0. In the quarter-final, Neymar scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Colombia. He also bagged a brace in the 6-0 semi-final thrashing of Honduras. In that game, he scored the fastest goal in an Olympic football match (male) taking just 14 seconds to score the opener.
Neymar took his form to the gold medal match, opening the scoring against Germany with a sublime first-half freekick. During the shootout, he would also go on to score the winning kick that landed a historic gold medal for Brazil.
