Nico Williams or Dani Olmo? Barcelona boss Hansi Flick reportedly chooses between 2 potential signings
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick reportedly prefers RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo over Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams as a potential signing this summer. According to SPORT journalist Ivan San Antonio, the German coach likes both players, but Olmo would be his choice if Barcelona have to pick one of the two.
The report also mentioned that Flick has been following the attacker's development in Leipzig for a while and prefers him for his tactical knowledge. The Spaniard reportedly has a release clause in his contract worth €60 million, which will expire on July 15.
Olmo scored eight goals and provided five assists in 25 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season for the Bundesliga side. He's a part of Spain's squad for the ongoing European Championships and featured for 30 minutes in their tournament opener against Croatia.
Nico Williams is also one of Spain's key assets in the Euros and started for his country against Croatia. Olmo and Williams' performances in the tournament could also impact Barcelona's final decision on the matter, who are looking to strengthen their left flank this summer.
Barcelona sporting director Deco met Dani Olmo's agent for a potential transfer - Reports
According to SPORT, Barcelona will do everything in their power to sign Dani Olmo this season. Barca's sporting director Deco reportedly met the Spaniard's agent Andy Bara last Tuesday and discussed Olmo's future alongside Barca Atletic defender Mikayil Faye.
The report suggests that Deco made it clear to Olmo's entourage that he's one of their main priorities this summer and is preferred by Hansi Flick. The Spaniard's versatility is reportedly appreciated by Barca.
Deco reportedly told Olmo's agent that they primarily view him as an option on the left-flank, but are aware that he can operate across the frontline.
However, Olmo will not come at a cheap price for Barcelona. His current contract with Leipzig ends in 2027 and his €60 million release clause will reportedly expire on July 15. La Blaugrana must sort out their financial situation quickly or complete a big sale to be able to sign Olmo.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also reportedly in the race to sign the Spaniard, according to journalist Martinez Ferran.
Olmo has some history with the Catalan giants as he spent a considerable time at Barca's youth academy, La Masia. The Catalan club have always promoted home-grown talent and have a number of La Masia graduates in their first team, including Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, and Lamine Yamal.
