"No place for these criminals in our society" - Vinicius Jr issues statement as some Real Madrid fans allegedly target Lamine Yamal with racist chants
Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. has condemned the alleged racial abuse faced by Lamine Yamal during Real Madrid's LaLiga clash against Barcelona. Los Blancos were thrashed 4-0 by Hansi Flick's side at Santiago Bernabeu in the season's first El Clasico on Saturday, October 26.
Robert Lewandowski started the onslaught for Barcelona with his quickfire brace (54' and 56'). Thereafter, Lamine Yamal (77') and Raphinha (84') made it 4-0 at the end of 90 minutes.
A major talking point after the game was the reported racist and xenophobic slurs directed at Lamine Yamal after the La Masia prodigy scored Barcelona's third goal. According to Barca Universal, the alleged incident occurred while Yamal was celebrating with his teammates. He performed Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic 'calma' celebration and followed it up with Vinicius Jr.'s dance routine, seemingly displeasing Madridistas in the stands.
Vinicius Jr. has also come forward, lambasting the culprits of the alleged racial abuse. The Brazilian superstar said (via @MadridXtra on X):
“It is regrettable what happened yesterday at the Bernabéu with racist insults. There is no place for these criminals in our society. All my support to Lamine, Ansu and Raphinha. I know that Madrid and the police will do things to identify and punish the guilty!”
Shortly after the accusations surfaced, Real Madrid issued an official statement condemning the alleged racism shown inside Santiago Bernabeu. The club also confirmed that they were working with LaLiga to find out the culprits and take stringent action against them.
Sergio Aguero claims that Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal is more talented than Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr.
Former Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero recently made a claim about La Masia graduate Lamine Yamal, declaring that he was more talented than Vinicius Jr. Both players are considered two of the best players in the game today.
Lamine Yamal made his Barcelona senior team debut in April 2023 and has seen a meteoric rise in popularity and footballing prowess since then. The La Masia graduate has played 65 games for Barcelona across competitions, scoring 13 goals and creating 16 more.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo (via Stake) before the El Clasico, Sergio Aguero provided his two cents on the comparison between Yamal and Vinicius Jr. The Argentine stated that he preferred Yamal over the Brazilian, saying:
"In style of play, speaking of talent, Lamine has much more than Vinicius although Vinicius has more experience and is more of a player with titles won with Madrid. Vinicius is one of the ‘top 3’ in the world but for age and talent, I prefer Lamine more."
He added:
"If it were up to me, I would have one on each side of my team and let the opponent pray. It’s like when Messi and Neymar were together."
Vinicius Jr., meanwhile, is one of the top contenders for the 2024 Ballon d'Or. He has already won two UEFA Champions League trophies, two FIFA Club World Cups, and three LaLiga titles with Real Madrid. This season, he has scored eight goals and seven assists in 15 games across competitions.
