“Not like anything I have seen in my short career” - Sporting CP star explains what Manchester United should expect from Ruben Amorim

Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand has shed light on what Manchester United players and fans should expect from incoming manager Ruben Amorim. He waxed lyrical about the Portuguese manager and lauded his managerial abilities.

Amorim was appointed as the Red Devils’ new head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. The 39-year-old manager signed a contract until June 2027 but will begin his stint at Old Trafford from November 11.

Hjulmand, who is Sporting CP’s club captain, spoke about Amorim amid his impending move to Manchester United. The Denmark international disclosed that Amorim was one of the reasons why he joined the Portuguese club last summer. He lauded the manager’s brilliance in handling his players on and off the pitch.

“Of course, Ruben was one of the reasons why I came to Sporting. When you work with Ruben you see a clear picture. That was important when I joined Sporting - first to understand how he plays,” Hjulmand said (via @UtdDistrict on X, taken from @mufcMPB).
“The way that he manages the team inside the pitch and outside the pitch as well is not like I anything I have seen in my short career,” he added.

The Red Devils have endured a tough start to the season, and Amorim will be expected to steady the ship when he officially resumes his role. Former United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently in charge of the team on an interim basis.

Manchester United equals worst-ever goal tally in club’s history

Manchester United matched their worst-ever goal tally since the 1973-74 season after their 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, November 3.

The Red Devils were forced to share the spoils at Old Trafford in their first league game since Erik ten Hag’s dismissal. Captain Bruno Fernandes scored his first goal of the season off a penalty kick (70’), but the Blues restored parity four minutes later through Moises Caicedo.

The result put United’s league statistics this season at nine goals scored, 12 goals conceded, and 12 points after 10 matches. This goal record equals their worst goal tally since the 1973-74 season.

It’s pertinent to note that the 1973-74 season was also the last time Manchester United got relegated from the English top-flight. The Manchester club are currently 13th in the standings, five points above the relegation zone.
