“Not sure what that means exactly” – Jurgen Klopp reveals what Salah told him about injury after Liverpool win over Brighton
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given some clarification concerning Mohamed Salah's injury during the club’s win over Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend. The 2022 AFCON finalist was taken off before the end of the game after sustaining an injury. It seems better than initially feared, but further assessments need to be taken.
Speaking after the game, Klopp told the press that Salah himself didn’t feel the injury was a major concern, saying:
“He got blocked before the penalty already when he shot the ball. He overstretched his foot slightly. He felt it a little bit higher than the knee. He is not concerned, not sure what that means exactly."
He added:
“We all know Mo is not often injured and I hope it stays like this. He thinks it will be fine, but he felt something. You could see he couldn’t walk properly. We need further assessment for sure.”
Salah got on the scoresheet through a penalty on the day before he was taken off but the star will hope to make a quick recovery. The Reds will need his help as they have a chance at an unprecedented quadruple at the end of the season.
The club will assess the situation and will hope they can welcome the Egyptian back into the fold as soon as possible.
Can Liverpool overtake Manchester City in the Premier League title race?
The Reds have been in top form throughout the season. But they have been unable to do anything about Manchester City's continual stay at the top of the table. Currently, after their win against Brighton, Jurgen Klopp's men sit just three points behind City, who take on Crystal Palace on Monday.
Tottenham stunned the Cityzens back in February, causing them to stumble slightly even though they consolidated their pole position. The Reds, on the other hand, have not lost a single Premier League game this year.
Liverpool will hope, against all odds, to win the remainder of their games. If City lose just one of their game, the Reds could potentially win the title. Pep Guardiola's men, however, know they cannot rest on their oars with the Reds right behind their backs.
