Olympics legend Sir Mo Farah wants Arsenal to sign Euro 2024 winner
Legendary long-distance runner and hardcore Arsenal fan Sir Mo Farah wants Mikel Arteta to bring Nico Williams to Arsenal. The winger's future has been a huge topic of discussion this summer, with Barcelona among the clubs who showed interest in securing his services.
However, there has been no movement whatsoever on that front. Williams is still an Athletic Club player, although his contract, which expires in 2027, contains a €58 million buy-out clause.
Farah, 41, won four Olympic gold medals for Great Britain and was knighted in late 2016. He is one of Arsenal's most famous fans and has even trained with their first-team squad in the past.
Football news website LiveScore reached out to Farah on Instagram and asked him to name the transfer he wants to see happening before the end of the window. He replied:
"Nico Williams to Arsenal"
The hype around Williams has multiplied in recent months. He already has 20 caps for Spain's international team, six of which came at the UEFA Euro 2024. He scored twice and assisted once, with one of those goals coming in the 2-1 win against England in the final.
With bags of pace of trickery up his sleeve, it is easy to see why clubs such as Barcelona and Arsenal are pursuing his signature. And with age on his side, it is fair to say that his best years are ahead of him.
Arsenal target Nico Williams hints at Athletic Club stay
Spanish outlet Cadena COPE recently claimed that Nico Williams' immediate future at Athletic Club has been resolved. He is reportedly going to stay at the club for at least one more year.
Those claims seem to have been given extra validity by a recent post made by the player on social media. Nico, whose brother Inaki also plays for Athletic Club, recently sent a message to his fans on the club's social media accounts that seemingly hinted at his future at the club.
The 22-year-old said:
"I'm back. I'm really looking forward to this season. Vamos, Athletic!
Williams has been at the club since he joined their youth academy in 2013. He has registered 20 goals and 26 assists in 122 senior games for Los Leones and is undoubtedly one of their most prized assets at the moment.
