"One of the best of our time" - Bayern Munich star Harry Kane hails Barcelona superstar ahead of UCL showdown
Harry Kane has hailed Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski as one of the best strikers in the world. The Poland international is preparing to face his former club Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week.
Lewandowski left Bayern in the summer of 2022 to join Barca in a reported €45m move. The 36-year-old was heavily linked with an exit from Camp Nou this summer but stayed put.
The veteran striker has been in scintillating form for the LaLiga giants this season, registering 14 goals and two assists from 12 games across competitions. His efforts have helped Barcelona register a stunning start to the new campaign under Hansi Flick.
The Catalan giants have picked up nine wins in 10 league games and are atop the league table with 27 points. Meanwhile, they have won and lost one game apiece in the Champions League. Barcelona will next face Bayern Munich in the continental competition on Wednesday, October 23.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, October 19, Kane lavished praise on Lewandowski.
“Robert Lewandowski is a fantastic striker, one of the best strikers of our time,” said Kane
Kane has also been in red-hot form since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 to join Bayern Munich. The Englishman has 13 goals and six assists from 10 games across competitions this season.
Will Barcelona sign a new striker in 2025?
Robert Lewandowski has rolled back the years for Barcelona this season. Reunited with former manager Hansi Flick at Camp Nou, the Polish striker has shown no signs of slowing down. He scored a brace to help Barca secure a 5-1 win over Sevilla in the league on Sunday, October 20.
Lewandowski will turn 37 next year and his contract expires at the end of this season. However, his deal will be automatically renewed for an additional year if he makes a predefined number of appearances this campaign.
While Lewandowski looks guaranteed to stay with the LaLiga giants for an additional year, they are already planning for the future. Recent reports have suggested that the Catalans have their eyes on Lille hitman Jonathan David, whose contract expires next summer.
The 24-year-old has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 giants of late and his contract situation makes him a lucrative option for Barcelona. Meanwhile, Barcelona also dream of signing Erling Haaland in 2025.
The Norwegian is arguably among the most lethal strikers in the world right now and could be the ideal replacement for Lewandowski. However, the LaLiga giants' poor finances make a deal difficult to complete.
