Owen Hargreaves names the 2 key areas Manchester United should look to reinforce for incoming manager Ruben Amorim
Owen Hargreaves believes the center-back and center-forward positions are the two key areas that Manchester United should strengthen for incoming manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese tactician was appointed by the Red Devils after they sacked Erik ten Hag earlier this week.
While speaking about the new era of Manchester United on Premier League Productions, Hargreaves said (via TBR Football):
“I think they need a striker and I think they need a centre-back to go along with the players they have, but I’m just excited."
The former United midfielder added:
"I think we just needed a change and this is a brilliant change and I’m sure he’s going to want to spend some money.”
The Red Devils reinforced both the positions that Hargreaves mentioned this summer, but Amorim could want signings that fit his style of play. United signed Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.
Amorim will take charge at Old Trafford on November 11, when the international break begins. Until then, he will continue leading Sporting CP, who are currently atop the Liga Portugal standings.
The Portuguese tactician will be looking to salvage the Red Devil's 2024-25 campaign, which is in dire need of substantial improvement.
Manchester United players will need to step up under Ruben Amorim
In the footballing world, managers are often the first to be criticized for a club's poor performances.
During Erik ten Hag's time at United, some of the players didn't perform as expected, which was one of the major issues at Old Trafford. In the same vein, some of the recent signings have failed to enhance the Red Devils' performances.
A brief overview of Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralf Rangnick's tenures at the Premier League giants depicts a similar pattern of players failing to step-up. Thus, for Ruben Amorim's time at United to be deemed a success, the players will need to take responsibility.
On the other hand, United fans will be hoping that Amorim can implement a system which brings the best out of his squad.
