Paddy Pimblett makes hilarious Darwin Nunez claim after Liverpool striker was involved in heated brawl during Copa America
UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett has shared his take on Liverpool's upcoming season under Arne Slot. After his impressive UFC 304 win against King Green, 'The Baddy' joked that Slot needs to have his MMA in place in reference to Darwin Nunez's antics after Uruguay's recent Copa America semi-final against Colombia.
Speaking about the Merseysider's upcoming season, Pimblett said (via Keifer MacDonald on X):
"I can't wait. I need to find out if Arne Slot is into his MMA and get down to the training ground, especially after Darwin Nunez was throwing a few one-twos."
In the post-UFC 304 press conference, Pimblett expressed an interest in fighting in Liverpool's famed Anfield stadium and packing the arena with UFC fans.
The Merseyside club, meanwhile, are set to start a new era under Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp stepped down last season. Pimblett, like other scousers, will keep a close eye on how Slot fares in his first season in charge of Darwin Nunez and Co.
Paddy Pimblett has high expectations of Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez
While Paddy Pimblett has previously expressed frustration with Darwin Nunez's knack for missing gilt-edged chances, he holds the Liverpool frontman in high regard. The MMA fighter is particularly impressed with Nunez's build-up play.
Pimblett recalled his dad opining that when Nunez gets going, he'll be unstoppable. Speaking on the BOSS podcast, 'The Baddy' said (via talkSPORT):
"My old fella [dad} said, 'lad, when it clicks with him, he's just gonna explode, he ain't justs not gonna stop scoring.' And he's right."
Pimblett further claimed that Nunez messes things up when he has too much time on the ball, adding that when it's instinctive, the Uruguayan rarely makes mistakes.
Nunez has so far scored 33 goals and provided 17 assists in 96 appearances for the Reds since his 2022 move from Benfica. Considering his raw ability, the 25-year-old will be expected to achieve big things next season.
