Pedri appears to confirm Dani Olmo transfer before official Barcelona announcement as he shares thoughts in online chat with fans
Barcelona midfielder Pedri has all but confirmed Dani Olmo's imminent arrival to the club in a recent fan chat with The Residency. La Blaugrana are expected to announce Olmo officially as a Barca player soon and the midfielder's representatives were reportedly present in the club's training ground.
Olmo starred for Spain during Euro 2024 and became a mainstay in the team following Pedri's injury in the quarter-final clash against Germany. He ended the tournament with three goals and two assists as La Roja lifted the European Championships.
Olmo, a La Masia academy product, is now set to return to the club. Pedri, currently nursing the knee injury suffered during Euro 2024, is excited to see his international teammate join the club troops. He said (via Planet Sports):
"I'm really pleased that Dani Olmo is coming to Barcelona. We get along very well, and I'm sure he'll bring a lot to the team. He already showed his quality during the Euros."
Olmo started his senior career at Dinamo Zagreb before moving to RB Leipzig in 2020. The Spaniard has since scored 29 goals and provided 34 assists in 148 matches for the Bundesliga club.
Olmo showed his technical prowess and an eye for goal during Euro 2024. Barca are set to add one of the most in-form attacking midfielders in the world to their ranks.
Pedri, though, will have to wait to share the pitch with Olmo in club colors. Hansi Flick's side are set to play AS Monaco in the Joan Gamper trophy on August 12. Yet Pedri is still sidelined, with his knee injury, which is expected to take four to six weeks to heal. A month has passed since Pedri picked up the blow, meaning his potential return could be around the corner.
Assessing Dani Olmo's imminent move to Barcelona
Dani Olmo's quality needs no questioning as the Spaniard showed he can shine on the biggest stages during Euro 2024. His familiarity with the Barcelona DNA could also be a massive boost for the club.
Olmo seems tailor-made for a club like Barca with his style of play, which relies on technique rather than brute force. He could turn out to be a fantastic recruitment for the Catalan club in the coming years.
Olmo, though, is not a traditional winger, a position that Barcelona arguably need to improve. Apart from that, Olmo's injury record is an aspect that could prove to be worrisome. Since 2021-22, the 26-year-old has suffered nine different injuries, which Barca's medical team need to take proper care of to help him reach his full potential.
