“Pele of our time with only PR and pics” - Fans claim Brazil star had ‘worst Copa America performance known to date’ after Uruguay defeat

Fans on X have blasted Endrick after he gave an underwhelming performance for Brazil in their 2024 Copa America quarter-final loss to Uruguay. The Selecao crashed out of the competition, losing 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 0-0 in normal time at the Allegiant Stadium (Saturday, July 6).

Endrick was deployed into the starting XI, replacing the suspended Vinicius Junior. The soon-to-be Real Madrid star had a good chance to go for goal in the 28th minute after Matías Vina's poor backpass was intercepted. However, he opted to pass to Raphinha instead, squandering their opportunity. The latter found himself one-on-one with the keeper seven minutes later but failed to convert as well.

The Copa America tie remained a cagey affair in the second half with both sides looking threatening on the counter. Uruguay were reduced to 10 men with Nahitan Nandez being sent off in the 74th minute after a bad foul on Rodrygo Goes.

With the scoreline reading 0-0 at full time, the game went to penalties with Uruguay sealing a 4-2 win. Eder Militao and Douglas Luiz were guilty of missing their spot-kicks for the Selecao, while Andreas Pereira and Gabriel Martinelli scored. Whereas for Uruguay, Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, and Manuel Ugarte scored, but Jose Gimenez missed.

Endrick struggled to make an impact during the game despite playing all 90 minutes. He was only able to complete just two passes from five attempts during the entire game, creating zero chances. In addition, he was dispossessed twice, lost 10 duels, and had just 23 touches in total.

One fan reacted by posting:

"Pele of our time with only PR and pics."

Another fan tweeted:

"Endrick officially with the worst Copa America performance known to date. Iconic."

Other reactions can be seen below:

"This guy isn’t even better than Jackson, he should stick to photoshoots," another added.
"Boy had one pass the whole game, that pass was from the kickoff," one fan claimed.
"Only Madrid can overhype there players, there should be an investigation on how they can buy so much PRs," one fan took aim at Real Madrid.
"Guys like this are the best Brazil has to offer? What a fall from greatness," another tweeted.
"I know passes aren’t indicative of a strikers performance but how do you complete ONE pass in 90 minutes? one fan questioned.
"Wtf......in 90 minutes this guy had 24 touches and 15 possessions lost with only 1/5 accurate passes. I have never seen a more iconic performance than this," another chimed in.

"I know that it is very difficult at this moment" - Endrick calls for support and vows to put Brazil on top after 2024 Copa America elimination

Brazil forward Endrick has conveyed his determination to put his nation back on top at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup after they were knocked out of the 2024 Copa America by Uruguay. He also admitted he hoped they retained the fans' support after falling short on Saturday.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, he said:

“We want to put Brazil on top. We will continue to work and prepare for the World Cup. I know that it is very difficult at this moment, but I hope that we will have the support of all Brazilians."

Despite Uruguay being down to 10 men in the final period of the game, the Selecao failed to look threatening up front without their star duo of Neymar Jr and Vinicius. They registered just seven shots with three being on target, while Uruguay had more efforts with 12 shots (one being on target).

They will look to quickly move on from their disappointing campaign. Brazil next face Ecuador in the World Cup Qualifiers on September 4. They are currently sixth in the standings with seven points from six games, eight points behind leaders Argentina.
