PL giants enter race to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay - Reports
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have seemingly put the Scottish star on the transfer list.
United have already rejected a bid for the 27-year-old this summer from Fulham, who are back with a new offer of £20 million. However, the Red Devils are holding out for £40 million.
According to The Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race and are keen on signing Scott McTominay. It is yet to be known if Manchester United's youth academy graduate is considering a move to Spurs. With McTominay's contract ending on Jun 30, 2025, Tottenham will try to lower the bid.
Scott McTominay, who started his senior career at Old Trafford in 2017, scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 43 games across competitions last season for United. He also recorded one goal in three appearances for Scotland at Euro 2024.
He has netted 29 goals and provided eight assists in 252 appearances across competitions for the Red Devils while winning the 2023-24 FA Cup and the 2022-23 EFL Cup.
Manchester United will face Liverpool in the upcoming pre-season friendly on Saturday (August 3) at Williams-Brice Stadium, South Carolina. Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, are pitted against Bayern Munich on the same day at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Manchester United boss on Scott McTominay's future at Old Trafford
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag spoke about Scott McTominay's future at Old Trafford. Most of the midfielder's last season appearances came from the bench and his chances of becoming a regular starter next season are low.
However, ten Hag addressed McTominay's situation last week when he suggested that the Red Devils wanted the 27-year-old to continue with them. The Dutch manager said (via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano):
"If you score 10 goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland there will be interest. We want to actually keep him because he's a very important player for us. We've seen what he can contribute last season."
McTominay is currently with United's squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.
