"Plays like he's asleep", "He has been horrible" - Fans slam Manchester United star despite 2-0 win over PAOK
Fans have taken to social media to slam Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot after his subpar performance in their 2-0 win over PAOK Thessaloniki FC. The English giants hosted their Greek counterparts at Old Trafford in their Europa League clash on November 7.
Amad Diallo was easily the best player on the pitch, as he scored both goals for the Red Devils (50', 77'). While they secured the win and kept a clean sheet against PAOK, the fans were not pleased with Dalot's performance in particular.
The full-back deputized on the left flank as he has often done for Manchester United, due to the club's injury crises affecting players in that position. He seemed to struggle, getting caught out of possession at times, while losing three ground duels and making just one tackle.
He also struggled on the ball, making one successful dribble out of three, and losing possession 12 times. In the 13th minute, the Portuguese full-back also made an error that led to a shot on goal after gifting PAOK possession on the edge of his box. Dalot's generally drab performance led several fans to slam him with comments on X like these:
"I hope to god he benches Dalot, dude plays like he’s asleep," a fan complained.
"When Shaw comes back, Dalot should just put the fries in the bag," another lashed out.
"Dalot has been at fault for most of our goals this season, being out of position and dragging others in the defence out of position, that was a Mourinho signing. Rashford has pressed inconsistently. Lindelof is still here, it is a valid excuse, and Amorim will find that out." this fan went into detail.
"Plus dalot has been horrible" a fourth claimed.
"Dalot must not start for us again. GGMU" another demanded.
"Dalot is a liability" a fan complained.
Manchester United's interim boss pleased with Amad Diallo performance
Manchester United's interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has shared his delight with Amad Diallo's performance against PAOK. The winger showcased his brilliance on the night, scoring a header from Bruno Fernandes' cross. He added a second with a remarkable solo effort from outside the box.
Afterwards, Van Nistelrooy spoke to TNT Sports about Diallo (via Eurosport):
“I think Amad made a difference for us today, obviously because of his goals, but he was sharp. In the first half, he was one of the few that were at his level, so well done to him, good game..."
“He made [the second] his own goal. It was Christian [Eriksen] who tried to cross it and coming inside to the left, getting it at the far post, was excellent. But I think this is what made the goal. He won his own duel and took the shot.”
Amad Diallo has struggled to find playing time at Manchester United this season. He has started just eight games across his 15 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and providing one assist. The winger will hope that this performance will keep him in the starting lineup more often.
