"Please don't embarrass me today", "This will not end well" - Liverpool fans react as star included in XI for Tottenham clash

Liverpool fans on X are far from pleased after Arne Slot included Andy Robertson in the starting XI to face Tottenham Hotspur. The two sides are set to face each other in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later today (Sunday, December 22).

Alisson Becker starts in goal for Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Andy Robertson make up the defense. The midfield consists of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai. Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and Luis Diaz start up front to complete the starting XI.

Robertson has been poor this season under Slot, failing to recapture the form he displayed under Jurgen Klopp. The Scotsman played a part in the Reds conceding the opening goal against Fulham, before being sent off for a last-man tackle during their 2-2 draw against the Cottagers (December 14).

Despite this, Robertson has made the starting XI over Kostas Tsimikas for the clash against Spurs. One Liverpool fan conveyed their displeasure on X:

"Robertson shouldn’t be starting games for us anymore. This will not end well today."

Another fan tweeted:

"Andrew robertson bro i adore you please don't embarrass me today i have faith in you"

Other fans reacted below:

"A part of me dies whenever i see robertson in the lineup," one fan commented
"Robertson better have the game of his life today or I can’t see him getting ahead of Tsimikas for a while!" another added
"Robertson is very very lucky to be starting. Spurs will obviously target him. Needs to improve massively from his recent performances," one fan tweeted
"Really surprised Slot has started him today after last few weeks," another typed

"Bit of vengeance for the Reds" - Mark Lawrenson makes bold prediction for Tottenham vs Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has backed Arne Slot and Co. to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming Premier League fixture. The Reds will be looking to avenge their 2-1 loss in this same fixture last season due to a series of VAR controversies.

Despite drawing their last two league games, the Reds still sit at the summit of the league table with 36 points from 15 games, one point above Chelsea with two games in hand. In contrast, Spurs have struggled this season and are in 11th position with 23 points - having won just two out of their last five league games.

Lawrenson made his prediction, writing (via Paddy Power News):

"With Spurs playing on Thursday night that will hurt them, they’ve hardly got any fit players either so there’s not too much going for Tottenham. It has to be a Liverpool win and a little bit of vengeance for the Reds after that crazy VAR balls-up in this game last season."

Lawrenson's Prediction: 0-2
