Portugal set to launch new €7 coin in honor of Cristiano Ronaldo: Reports

Portugal is set to launch a new Euro coin in honor of legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, according to journalist Carol Radull. The 39-year-old has achieved tremendous success for club and country during his glittering football career.

The Real Madrid legend is the all-time leading goalscorer in men's international football and has scored 132 times for his national team in a record 214 caps. Ronaldo guided Portugal to a historic Euros triumph in 2016 and also lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy with A Selecao in 2019.

The four-time European Golden Shoe winner has millions of fans around the world and recently made history by becoming the first person to have 1 billion followers across various social media platforms. He now has crossed the prestigious 900-goal threshold in his career and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Ronaldo started his career at Sporting CP before becoming a household name at Manchester United. He then earned a dream move to Real Madrid, where he established his dominance in world football. After a run with Juventus and a brief second coming at Old Trafford, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner now plies his trade with Saudi side Al-Nassr.

In recognition of his achievements in football, Portugal is reportedly set to launch a new 7 Euro coin. Interestingly, the number is synonymous with their prodigal son, who has donned that shirt number for almost his entire career.

The coin will have an image of Cristiano Ronaldo and 'CR7' - the superstar's accepted shortcode embossed on it. As per Telecom Asia Sport, it will be acceptable as a currency in Portugal once it is launched.

Cristiano Ronaldo's career remains one of the biggest topics of discussion in world football. The Portuguese icon and his rival Lionel Messi are in the final phase of their illustrious careers. The Argentine superstar plays in the MLS with Inter Miami and recently won the Copa America with his national team.

While Ronaldo's run at Euro 2024 wasn't fruitful, he remains crucial to Portugal's plans. He is still one of the first names in the team sheet and his hunger and desire fuel the team's ambition.

There are, however, doubts whether the legendary footballer will be around when the world gathers for the next World Cup in 2026. The Portuguese will be 41 when the tournament kicks off, but one cannot rule out an appearance in his sixth World Cup, which will set a new record.
