PSG enter race to sign Chelsea target - Reports
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have entered the race to sign Chelsea target Jhon Duran, according to AS. The Colombian striker has been in inspired form for Aston Villa this season and was also a wanted man this summer.
Duran arrived at Villa Park in January 2023 from MLS side Chicago Fire. Last season, he registered eight goals from 37 games across competitions and was linked with an exit this summer.
The Blues were hot on his heels as they looked for a new No. 9. West Ham United, PSG, and Bayern Munich were also interested in the player, but the Birmingham-based club refused to let him go.
The 20-year-old has taken his game to a higher level this season under Unai Emery. While he is not a regular starter yet, Duran has still managed six goals from nine games across competitions, only one of which was from the start.
The Colombian came off the bench in midweek (October 2) to score the winner (79') against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. His efforts have apparently convinced PSG, who are still looking for a new No. 9.
Goncalo Ramos has struggled with injuries this season and Luis Enrique's side are a little short in attack. The Parisians have now set their sights on Duran and could return for him next year.
However, the Ligue 1 champions will face competition from Chelsea in the race. The Blues were desperate to sign Victor Osimhen this summer but failed to script a move.
While the London giants could return for the Nigerian at the turn of the year, there are no guarantees that they will complete a move. Chelsea are keeping their options open and could consider a move for Duran in 2025.
Will Chelsea and PSG break the bank for Jhon Duran?
Chelsea and PSG will have to break the bank if they wish to sign Jhon Duran next year. The player is under contract at Villa Park until 2028 and is part of Aston Villa's plans for the future.
The Villans are looking to reclaim their lost glory under Unai Emery, who has improved the team by leaps and bounds since taking charge in 2022. While they have Ollie Watkins in their ranks, the Englishman is already on the radar of multiple clubs and could be on the move in 2025.
As such, only a massive offer would convince Aston Villa to part ways with Duran next year. A recent report from Football Insider has suggested that Real Madrid are also eyeing the player.
