PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe sends message to Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr after recent racism incident
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Kylian Mbappe sent a message of support to Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr after the latter was subjected to racism by La Liga fans. The incident occurred during Los Blancos' 1-0 defeat against Valencia away yesterday (21 May).
Vinicius was the target of racism and abuse from supporters at the Mestella stadium. The Real Madrid starlet identified the group of fans responsible in the second half. Play was paused for several minutes when referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea informed stadium officials who implored for the racist chants to cease.
As per Scroll, the referee, in his post-match report, mentioned that a fan yelled 'monkey, monkey' at Real Madrid's Vinicius.
The situation culminated deep in stoppage time in the second half. The Brazilian was sent off for pushing Valencia forward Hugo Duro in the face after a VAR check. This only occurred after the Valencia players got in the Brazilian's face and Duro put him in a headlock. The latter wasn't punished for his actions.
Vinicius posted a long message following the game on Instagram. The 22-year-old claimed that racism in La Liga is the norm and that the Federation viewed it as normal. His full post can be viewed below:
The Brazilian's post was immediately met with support and has already garnered nearly nine million likes in 11 hours. PSG megastar Kylian Mbappe also backed the Brazil international by posting an Instagram story that stated:
"You're not alone. We are with you & we support you."
Hopefully, strict action is taken by La Liga against those responsible for the racism last night.
When PSG superstar Neymar Jr claimed Vinicius Jr was the best player in the world ahead of Kylian Mbappe
PSG megastar Neymar claimed that Vinicius was the best player in the world and ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema last season.
The Brazilian has been fortunate enough to play with some of the best players of this generation. He formed a lethal partnership with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez during his Barcelona days and also teamed with Kylian Mbappe at PSG. The Brazilian has also played with Vinicius for the national team.
In an interview with TNT Sports Brazil, he said (via CBS Sports):
"Mbappe had a great season, Benzema too. But from what I've seen, Vinicius Junior is the best player in the world."
Neymar's comments came after the enigmatic Brazilian helped Real Madrid defeat Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League final by scoring the only goal of the game in the second half.
Both Mbappe (24) and Vinicius (22) are fantastic players and are set to dominate European football for the next decade.
Based on stats alone at club level, Kylian Mbappe is having the better season so far. He has scored 40 goals and provided nine assists in 41 appearances. Meanwhile, the Real Madrid forward has scored 23 goals and provided 21 assists in 54 appearances.
