PSG Transfer News Roundup: Parisians lift Lionel Messi suspension; club eyeing Michael Olise, and more - May 8, 2023

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a thumping 3-1 win over Toyes on Sunday (May 7) in Ligue 1. Kylian Mbappe, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz found the back of the net to help their team inch closer to defending their title.

Meanwhile, the Parisians have revoked attacker Lionel Messi’s suspension. Elsewhere, the Ligue 1 champions are eyeing Michael Olise. On that note, here's a look at the key PSG transfer stories as on May 8, 2023.

PSG have ended Lionel Messi’s two-week suspension, according to RMC Sport. The Argentinean was suspended for a fortnight after an unauthorised visit to Saudi Arabia last week.

The Ligue 1 champions were least pleased that the 35-year-old hadn’t taken permission before skipping training to go on a tour. The player’s contract is running out at the end of the season, but he hasn’t signed a new deal.

The latest saga further complicated matters regarding a contract extension, with multiple reports claiming that Messi has played his last game for PSG. However, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner recently apologised for his actions via social media, adding a new twist to the tale. The Parisians are reportedly happy with the player’s response and have decided to revoke the suspension.

The French giants even reported that Messi has returned to first-team training on Monday.

He's now likely to be available for the Ligue 1 champions' upcoming game against Ajaccio. However, the Argentinean’s future remain up in the air, amid interest from Barcelona and Inter Miami.

The Parisians are already preparing for life without Messi, who's expected to leave Paris at the end of the season. However, the Ligue 1 champions have revamped their recruitment strategy and will no longer target superstars.

Instead, the Ligue 1 giants want to build a core of talented young French players and have set their sights on Olise. The 21-year-old has been impressive for Crystal Palace this season and is expected to have a great future.

While the Eagles would loathe to see him leave, PSG could convince them to part ways with their prized asset by offering a sizeable fee. The Frenchman has two goals and nine assists in 37 games across competitions for the Parisians.

Journalist Dharmesh Sheth reckons Newcastle United could be tempted to turn heads by securing Neymar’s signature this summer.

The Brazilian forward is heavily tipped to leave PSG at the end of the season. The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the Magpies reportedly holding an interest in the player.

Manager Eddie Howe recently said that Newcastle do not have Neymar in their plans. However, speaking to Give Me Sport, Sheth said that the Magpies could be tempted to secure a marque signing this summer to spice things up.

“The other factor you have to take into consideration as well is Newcastle have really done it in an organic way so far, haven't they?” said Sheth.

He continued:

"But is there going to come a time where they think, yes we still want to continue doing it this way and build slowly but maybe make a marquee signing somewhere along the line as well? That's going to make everyone sit down and think 'Wow, this is a huge signing'."

Neymar has blown hot and cold during his time with the Ligue 1 champions but could be an instant hit at Newcastle United.
