"PSG wants to escape the rules of football" - Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe's lawyer takes aim at Paris Saint-Germain over €55m wage dispute
Kylian Mbappe’s lawyer has taken a dig at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) amid reports that they do not want to pay the forward his unpaid wages. The lawyer of the Real Madrid attacker berated the Ligue 1 side for attempting to flout football rules and lamented LFP’s (Ligue de Football Professionnel) inability to sanction them.
Kylian Mbappe opened legal proceedings against his former club in June, claiming they refused to pay him the amount he was owed. Fortunately for the Frenchman, the court ruled in his favor, ordering PSG to pay him €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.
However, after the court gave its verdict on the issue, PSG reportedly defended itself by referencing a verbal agreement, which it claims absolves them from the obligation to make these payments.
The situation has raised eyebrows in the football world, with one of Kylian Mbappe’s legal representatives, Delphine Verheyden, claiming that PSG’s action could set a bad precedent. She told L’Equipe (via Mundo Deportivo):
"In order to participate in a championship, PSG accepts the regulations. But this story says that the League and the Federation have no power over the club. We are in a case that is becoming much bigger than my client's case and that could blow everything up. PSG is saying loud and clear to all other clubs: 'Stop paying your players, force them to go to the labour court for a first-instance decision, two years of appeal and the same amount in cassation. They will all be finished with their careers before they receive payment..."
She added:
"We want to be paid what we are owed. PSG wants to escape the rules of football. They are willing to overthrow the system instead of fulfilling their obligations. If the authorities do not protect the contracts and their rules, we send a strong signal that says: 'They can trample on all the players."
Kylian Mbappe said he would have stayed at PSG throughout his career had Real Madrid not come calling
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe recently claimed that he would have stayed at PSG all his life had Real Madrid not approached him. The Frenchman said it was an honor to don the Les Parisiennes jersey.
Kylian Mbappe left PSG for Real Madrid on a Bosman transfer in the summer. However, before he eventually joined Los Blancos, he had reportedly rejected the Spanish club in 2017 and 2022. In a recent appearance on BeIN Sports’ Be United program, Mbappe reflected on his time in the French capital.
He said:
"I spent seven years at PSG, it was an honour. I don't think I've said it enough, or shown it enough, but I've always been aware of where I am and what a great club PSG is. I've always said it's the biggest club in France and one of the best in the world. I went to the biggest club in the world.
"I've always said it was the only club I would have left PSG for. If I hadn't been able to go to Real Madrid, I would have stayed at PSG all my life. I had a dream of playing there and I'm very happy. But of course I always watch PSG's games, I have friends in the team and they're playing well at the moment."
Kylian Mbappé has scored 12 goals and provided two assists for Los Blancos in 22 appearances across competitions.
