Pundit believes Arsenal new boy Riccardo Calafiori has the 'qualities to do well' in the Premier League

Pundit Lorenzo Amoruso believes Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori, who recently joined the Gunners, has what it takes to shine in the Premier League. Amoruso also pointed out that Calafiori will face a lot more pressure playing for the Gunners than he did at Bologna.

Amoruso stated that the Gunners have been defensively vulnerable in recent seasons, conceding crucial goals. Mikel Arteta's former Rangers teammate, however, is confident that Calafiori has the necessary qualities to shine in the Premier League. He told Derby Derby Derby (via HITC):

"At Bologna he had little pressure, except perhaps the very last part of the season. At Arsenal it will be a different story, also because one of the Gunners' biggest weaknesses is their defence, which has conceded too much in recent years."

Amoruso added:

"Furthermore the team has been very close to the Premier League finish line for several seasons but than hasn't managed to win. Calafiori still has the qualities to do well."

Calafiori impressed during the 2023-24 Serie A season, helping Bologna secure UEFA Champions League qualification for the 2024-25 season. He was also pivotal for the Italy side during Euro 2024 and even bagged an assist against Croatia.

One of Calafiori's best qualities is his passing range. Last season, he scored two goals and provided five assists, despite playing as a centre-back for Bologna. He joins a sound defensive line-up consisting of William Saliba, Gabriel, Jurrien Timber, and Jakub Kiwior at the Emirates.

Will Riccardo Calafiori make his Arsenal debut in their pre-season friendly against Liverpool?

Arsenal are set to play a pre-season friendly against Liverpool on July 31 at Lincoln Financial Field. Riccardo Calafiori is expected to get some minutes despite just having joined the club, as per The Sun.

Although there was a long period of negotiations between Bologna and Arsenal, Calafiori kept working on his fitness to stay in top condition before his move to north London.

Calafiori is a top talent, but, given the quality and depth the Gunners have in their defense, he might need to prove his worth and earn a place in Mikel Arteta's starting XI during the 2023-24 season.
