Raheem Sterling fourth in list of 10 highest-paid English players after Ivan Toney makes big jump following Saudi Pro League switch
Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling and former Brentford striker Ivan Toney are among the four best-paid English players in the game currently. It was an especially significant jump for Toney following his move to Al-Ahli.
A target of many Premier League clubs - like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United - the Euro 2024 finalist snubbed them all as he chose to embark on a new adventure in the Saudi Pro League.
Brenford accepted a reported £40 million offer for Toney, who's set to receive a tax-free weekly salary of approximately £400,000. Does that make the 28-year-old the best-paid English player currently?
The answer to that is no. The top honour goes to Bayern Munich marksman Harry Kane. Following his move from Tottenham Hotspur last summer on a reported £100 million deal, Kane earns a weekly salary of close to £406,000, as per Sport Bible.
What about Sterling? Frozen out of the first team by new Blues boss Enzo Maresca, the Englishman made a move across London to Arsenal on loan on Deadline Day (August 30). The Blues, though, will foot most of Sterling's £325,000 monthly salary.
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham - who moved to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer - is third on the list with a reported monthy salary of £341,175. Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford and Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish (both £300,000) are respectively fifth and sixth.
United midfielder Mason Mount, City defender John Stones, United attacker Jadon Sancho and Blues full-back Reece James (all £250,000) round off the top-10 list.
How did Raheem Sterling and Ivan Toney fare last season?
Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling has had an underwhelming stint since arriving from Manchester City in the summer of 2022. In 81 games across competitions, the 29-year-old has registered just 19 goals and 12 assists.
That includes 10 goals and eight assists in 43 games across competitions last season as Mauricio Pochettino's side reached the EFL Cup final (lost to Liverpool), FA Cup semi-final (lost to Manchester City) and finished sixth in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Ivan Toney - returning from an FA-imposed ban for betting - registered four goals and two assists in 17 outings - all in the Premier League, where Brentford finished a lowly 16th, 13 points off the relegation zone.
Both Raheem Sterling and Ivan Toney will now look to get going at new surroundings this season, especially the latter, who has moved out of the Premier League.
