Rasmus Hojlund names Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and one other former Red Devil as his favourite Manchester United players

Rasmus Hojlund has made no secret of his love for Manchester United, having been a boyhood fan of the club. During a Q&A session with GQ Sports, the Danish striker named his three favourite United players, including Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hojlund joined Manchester United last summer fom Atalanta for a reported £64 million. Although he didn’t make an immediate impact, the Dane showed glimpses of his potential and finished the season strongly, scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances across competitions.

During his announcement, a childhood photo of him wearing United’s famous red circulated on social media, which highlighted his support for the club. When asked about his top three Manchester United players, Hojlund selected three forwards - Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie.

The 21-year-old named Van Persie as his first choice, which suggests he may have idolised the Dutch striker while growing up, particularly given their similar playing styles.

Hojlund, who had a disappointing Euro 2024 with Denmark, missed the Community Shield against Manchester City due to a hamstring injury sustained during pre-season against Arsenal. He's not expected to return until next month.

When Rasmus Hojlund expressed his admiration for Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo

Hojlund, who is living his dream of playing for the club he supports, shared how his journey with Manchester United began. In his first interview with the club, the Dane revealed that it was his father who had introduced him to United.

The forward mentioned that one of his earliest football memories was Manchester United’s Champions League victory over Chelsea in 2008.

The former Atalanta man also shared his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, highlighting how the former United star has influenced him with both his exceptional quality and strong mentality.

"He had a rough childhood, he came through it, he wanted to be the best. He even just put it out there very early. I think there’s an interview with Anderson, Ferdinand and Ronaldo where they ask, the reporter asks, ‘Who’s the best football player in the world’ and then he just said ‘me’.
"I like this mentality. He just put it out and said at least he wanted to be the best, and that’s the same mentality I go for. I want to be the best version of myself.” he said (via Manchester United website)

There are several heroes at United from whom Hojlund can learn as he continues to develop. However, this season he's set to have a challenge on his hands from new arrival Joshua Zirzkee, who could start while the Dane is injured.
